Polk RTA 8 TL's, any good?

Thinking of selling my Monitor 7B's (yea, I know) and buying some RTA 8 TL's on CL for $150. I'm going to be downsizing soon and skinnier tower speakers are going to fit better in the layout. Would the 8's be a downgrade, sideways or just crazy idea? Maybe going to a set of 5B's might be better for size reduction? Powering with an Arcam A65+ 40 wpc integrated.

$150 is too much. Less than $100 is the going rate. Sideways move at best, maybe a downgrade. Which tweeter is in your 7s?

If they are in good shape, $150.00 may be a tad high, but not outrageous. I have always liked my non TLd 8Ts. Small footprint, front ported make them versatile. 6 ohm. Your amp should work fine, but all speakers always benefit from more power.
If for some reason you don't like them, you could always part out the drivers and and get your money back. -
I have the Peerless tweets.
I'll pass. Tho I am intrigued with the Definitive Technology 350 monitors -
I think the RTA11's are more comparable to the 7's. They may be near the same width as the RTA 8's But its a shame to give up the peerless tweeter. The peerless sound much better than the SL2000 and SL2500. I will be getting some RDO-198's soon, so sometime this summer I'll be able to compare those. I think the 5's are bass shy, and the same or not much narrower than the RTA11's.

I'd look for RTA11TL. I think you would be disappointed. The RTA8TL are decent but back in 1990 when I was in the market, I found the 11 to be a big step up from the 8 in bass depth and mid-bass clarity.Stan

8t's or tl's don't get much love here, except by the people that still own them. I have both and they are different animals. Same signature sound of back then but I have found the 7's to be more open/airy, sound good at lower/mid volume. The 8's, to me, always had better midrange and were much better for mid/higher volume. Many people overlook the 8's but they can sound dang good and you can push 'em like no tomorrow.
Different strokes for different folks...Remember, when you're running from something, you're running to something...-me -
I didn't mean to sound like I was ragging on the 8's. The 11's were a step up and should have better bass. The 8's are a fine speaker.Stan
