1.2TL vs 2.3 TL in a smaller room

Oh the rabbit hole.
They're expensive to upgrade properly, but will sound amazing and will hold their own against the 1.2 and 1.2tl.
If your heart-set on 1.2tls, wait until a pair comes up within a reasonable distance.
Ok, I see
I'm not doubting you, just trying to learn how these big SDA's work. Common ground amps would be pretty much most modern stereo amps correct? I thought this problem comes into play with mono block amps only or some old vintage amps.
I was thinking ( while the expensive option) that the SRS with new boards, inductors, caps, etc, 8 MW 6511, and 8 RDO 198 could be transformed into a TL version.
Again that wouldn't be cost effective unless I could find them at a bargain basement price IF it could even work but seems that's not the case.
I agree it's best to wait for a 1.2 or 1.2TL if I wanted that version....I guess I'm getting ahead of the game....

No, many current stereo amps are non-common ground dual mono.

I double checked my B&K amp with my Fluke and with the setting on 500 ohms I ended up with .17 ohms across the negative speaker terminals.

Looks like this is coming together....will post pics after a road trip, likely tomorrow....

Yes....thanks.
14 hrs later....glad to be home as well.... -
That's not so bad, I drove 26 hours for mine
Getting home does feel great, lets see some pics tomorrow.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

26...ouch....but I will say after hearing them I can see why...and they're in their modding infancy.
F1...I was about 2 hrs into the return trip, wish I was home for sure. My super trooper 7YO stuck it out until about 10 pm....he wasn't having anything to do with me leaving for some big speakers and him staying home. Now I just need to wait until sunrise to finally settle down to keep that shift work sleep schedule going. Then.....yes, I will be in some deep sleep...
Would like to get the sides redone, has a few snags here and there but nothing too serious.

He sounded a little jacked up when I spoke with him. Pill poppin truck driver, I'd suspect.

Congrats to you! I'm betting you're going to love those 2.3s.
I did a 24 hour round trip for my 1.2s so I have a good idea of how you feel after that long journey. -
Congrats on your new 2.3TL's !!!

Thanks, been looking for awhile for one of these larger SDA's and it was boiling down to how many hours was I willing to drive...but I agree, I think it's going to be well worth it.
First off, I looked for the air leaks. A few of the screws for the dimensional drivers were loose, some 1 full turn out so with all the screws snugged down, the push-test is much better and more even balanced between the two, but not perfect......a solid 3 count between both of them so I will work on that.
Now, for those that have taken a stock 2.3 TL into a fully modded version, did you notice any veiling in the, I want to guess, 1K-3K Hz range? Granted these have the RDO-198 tweeters but stock crossovers with the poly switch jumped. I'm also trying to compare them to a fully modded and well broken in 2B-TL.
I set them up, grills off, used existing gear as I did for the 2B's, but I noticed a void in that frequency range, almost like a tweeter wasn't connected but all are working. So I swapped the B&K Ref 50 pre-amp which is known to be slightly on the "warm" side to my trusty Yamaha CX-1000 and low and behold, everything was cleaner, even the freq range in question. I love the Ref 50, but it seems there is just this void somewhere and I can't put my finger on it. The vocals aren't bushed back, just ever slightly attenuated along with some upper mid range and could be the result of worn caps. I noticed this with the 2B's but it's very slight with them....hard to say.
Now this could be that the Yamaha is just bright but is this the common issue with old crossover components with the 2.3? Has anyone had similar first impressions and then a fresh crossover clear everything up? I've only compared my 2B to a stock speaker to a modded 2B so I can't say how the 2.3's behave.
When I started with the 2B, the difference wasn't as dramatic, but the highs just got smoother...like butter smooth so I'm curious if something is out of whack, or maybe these 2.3's are telling me I need a better pre-amp.
The sound from the 2.3's is much fuller than the 2B. Don't get me wrong, my 2B's are very detailed, great sound stage, and I don't think I can part with them....but right off the bat I can see how these 2.3's just effortlessly fill the room. The midrange/midbass is much more pronounced than the 2B, I didn't think they would sound like this, can't wait to get them dialed in.
Flash was a little hot. The base could use some TLC as well as the side panels but that's something I can take care of down the road.
