Emotiva Xpa 1 Gen 1- Buy it or save for something else?

A pair of came up on CL for 1200. Called and talked to the owner and he said it was like new with about 20 hours play. Also stated that 1 side of the on light was dead but once the music start going it'll display. Worth the 1200? Wait for another buy? It'll be powering the a9.

Inherently bright amps are not a good match for inherently bright speakers.

Emo amps tend to run on the bright side, and the speaker you are going to be using with it tend toward a brighter sound with the highs. The combination will be quite harsh in the higher frequencies. The other thing is the amp admittedly already has issues, regardless of how small. I would look elsewhere.

    Caveat emptor.

    Buy! Run! Buy!
On second thought, this may be a re-ferb.
Sounds odd that their is something wrong w/ an amp w/ 20 hours on it.
Plus, if you are buying used you could probably do
better with another amp and save about $700.00
It would hurt to demo it to see if it is what you want for sound.

  • Thanks guys. Guess I'm avoiding the buy.

That A23 Halo is worth every penny while the 2250 is a deal that deal on the Halo is a better way to go, a high current amp that's a Halo at that price nab it. I'm pretty sure it is immaculate.

The XPA-1's are amazing even on a9's. I know from experience. Get a decent pre amp while your at it.

I do think that $1200 may be a little steep though, for a gen 1, which doesn't have the 60w class a.

I would buy this MonoPrice/ATI amp new for 1,200 bucks.
I have the Crestron variant of this amp and its hands down one of my favorite amps.

I can agree with that. The ATI AT1202 with only 120wpc sounded really nice on my Rti12s.
