Can I remove the Power Port Venting System from the back and not affect the audio quality?
"Power Port Venting System: Each speaker has a rear-firing Power Port venting system built into its back plate for precise deep bass response. This venting system allows air velocity to slow gradually, vastly reducing air turbulence, and delivering greater bass efficiency than conventional ports."
I am considering buying some Polk Audio LSi9 speakers, but don't like the appearance of the "Power Port Venting System." If I remove them, will this negatively affect the audio quality?
I ask because I've read elsewhere that this system is really for mounting or placing the speakers up against a wall or bookshelf.
I plan on having these speakers out away from a wall at least a foot or more.
Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

Yes.I ask because I've read elsewhere that this system is really for mounting or placing the speakers up against a wall or bookshelf.
No, that's not the reason. It is an improved design over the standard port, which also just happens to allow closer placement to a rear wall.I plan on having these speakers out away from a wall at least a foot or more.
A foot is very close to the rear wall, you'll be thankful for the Power Port.

I'd leave it alone but they will be your speakers and only you can decide it it sounds worse without it. You may get a chuffing sound at higher volumes with out.

Thanks for the comment. I don't ever listen to music louder than 90dB... most of the time it's 75-85dB and that includes peaks. I use a Polk subwoofer also and that takes care of the low end, so the LSi9s will not be having to do heavy duty low frequency work... so perhaps chuffing won't be an issue."Is it sirius?"

Yes, it will have a negative effect. Either deal with it or move onto something more aesthetically appealing.
It most likely will change the timbre of upper mid bass and lower mids, so it's not all about chuffing or low bass.
H9"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it.
