Emotiva XPR-2 and SDA/SRS?

Would this amp be a good match for powering a pair of Polk SDA/SRS (first version) speakers? The amp has plenty of power (600 wpc into 8 ohs/1000 into 4) but not sure if it is a common ground amp or not (which I believe the SDAs need. Any ideas or opinions?

As expected for its power rating the manual states it uses a differential output stage so it is not common ground. You will need an appropriate isolation transformer if you want to use it with SDA's.

    Here we go! >:)

Oh C'mon, we can be civil around here.

    WTF ARE YOU THINKING !!!!

    Just kidding...

Not sure about the common ground issue, but that is way more power than you'll ever use. That amp might fall asleep even. :) Any particular reason your looking for that much power ?

I haven't heard that particular amp, but if it sounds anything like Emotiva's other amps, I might pass. I know some here have it, and like it though, so take my words with a grain of salt. Personally, I'd be looking at more musical amps.

First-Gen SDA SRS are not compatible with the isolation transformer. The Emotiva is a no-go.

I have the Emo for some other speakers I have that are somewhat difficult to drive (Infinity Kappa 9s). I also have an Emo CMX2 Precision AC Line Restoration & Common Mode Filter System. This is more for eliminating DC offset and line noise though.

Your speakers will not work with any mono block or non-common ground amplifier. Look to parasound, Sunfire, or another type of stereo amplifier

Those Kappa 9's present a nasty load.
Your using the line filter with the amp?I would think that would restrict it's current capability somewhat.
As for mono block's some can have their negative speaker terminals strapped together to make them common ground. It all depends on how their output stages are configured.

I have a lot of line noise in my house which becomes audible only when I use a very high current amp (like the XPR2). The XPR2 also requires a 20 amp circuit. The line filter makes this amp dead quiet after trying quite a few other remedies.

Filtering out noise is not the problem, compatibility is. This amp will fry your speakers, or they will fry the amp, or both. You NEED common ground stereo amplification.

I think I'll be able to use an Adcom 5400 with the Polks. That should have both sufficient power and common ground.

    You'll need a jumper wire.

Could you elaborate? A jumper wire for what?

A higher quality amp won't have audible line noise.

The Adcom 5400 is NOT common ground. For that amp you can tie (using thick gauge wire) the two negative speaker outputs together (at the amp) to create a common ground. Use a short run of high quality stranded 10 or 12 gauge wire and connect both NEGATIVE terminals to each end BEFORE you hook up the speakers.

P.s. NOTE: you can't do this with every non-common ground amp.

    That makes no sense.
