Denon DRA-835R Direct Source Button Problem

Hi All - First off, I have to say that when it comes to electronics, I know nothing. Having said that, I thought I'd try to see if I could figure out a solution to a problem I'm having with my Denon DRA-835R and possibly fix it. The problem is that the Direct Source button only works when it is pushed in. This is in the DS mode and the bass/treble/flat/balance do not work and the receiver plays the music as it was recorded. When I press the button to turn off the DS, I hear the loud audible switch and then nothing; no music plays. I usually like to listen to my CDs with the DS turned off so I can set the bass, treble and flat levels. Is there any chance I can fix this or is it time for a new receiver?

Check the position of the Normal/Separate switch on back.

By the way, this is an awesome receiver. I have a Service Manual for this receiver that also has operating instructions if you need.

Stan!!! You ARE the man! I never even knew that button existed, or what it was for. The receiver sits on a shelf with my home theater equipment (separate system) and I recently installed a new home theater receiver. I must have inadvertently and unknowingly pushed that button when moving things around back there. That did the trick, everything is back to normal operation. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!!!! You saved me countless hours of headache and probably several hundred dollars that would've been unnecessarily spent on a new receiver. Thanks for the offer of the manual but I still have the original that came with the unit when I bought it in the early 90's. Man, I can't say "thank you" enough, Stan! Have a great Independence Day!

Cool, glad it worked out. I picked up my DRA-835R off EB cheap because the seller thought there was something wrong, that it would not save radio station presets. I had a hunch that they just didn't know how to use it and I was right. Having a DRA-825R for many years, I knew the presets were a little strange.

Comparing the 825 to the 835, the 835 dropped the Moving Coil phono capability and the simulated stereo. However, the 835 is more of a dual-mono design. In spite of the similar power ratings, the 835 has more slam and controls the bass much better. It drove my RTA11TL's with ease and did a good job with the LSi15's. It really is their integrated amp with a tuner thrown in.
