Stacking subwoofers ?

Has anybody here Stacked one sub on top of another sub ? Both being identical. If so, how did it sound ? Would it subtract from the bass? I am thinking stacking two Def tech supercube reference subs one on top of another. I would need to do this for space and I only have one corner in the room for a sub. I do not like them in any other area of the room..I have not gotten the second sub as of yet so I cannot try.

I'm not a fan of stacking anything , in a home environment anyway. I would think 2 subs stacked , in a corner, is going to overload that corner fairly easily. Plus I also imagine if your short on room, then the room isn't that big anyway, which also will make it easy to overload it.

Yeah, but you have to have the room for it. Put everything into perspective, your average sized room full of furniture is not exactly ideal for stacking.

I'd say if you stack em you need to isolate them from each other somehow. With spikes or isolation pads or something. Thinking that would be hard to do with sub's so close together?

Thanks everyone for chiming in . It sounds like it is 60/40 regarding not stacking. I would go with the def tech supercube reference since they have little vibration and a perfect square. My room is 15x20 ft with cathedral ceilings so I am not sure if I would be overloading the room. Its just that I have only one corner for these. That said, these are 1800 watt subs weighing 110 pounds each. With the weight and little vibration would I need anything more than some type of feet in between??? I have one and someone is tempting me with buying another one as is at $650... But maybe it may just be overkill. Though I have heard many times that you can never have too much bass :o

Place one in the corner and the other on the coffee table. No more problems, except the empty end tables.

I would get both subs and give it a shot. The room sounds large enough. Center placement of subs, since you have two, or either side of the couch may also work depending on space and HT capabilities.

I'm a fan of putting one front and back of the room to even out some bass modes. In my room they are in opposite corners front and back.

So, I can pick up a mint deftech supercube reference for $650 and have two. The placement would be the problem. Maybe sell or trade the reference for a supercube1 and stack the two like a pyramid and maybe make a buck. I think it is good price for the reference. And I have my anitmode 8033 to equalize them.

I have bought gear too many times I didn't have room for. And trust me, I made it work and made it fit. Thankfully my girlfriend is easy going and has her head in the clouds most days

I would say do it before it's too late. The anti mode is awesome. I've successfully calibrated 3 subs with one. It's a great little unit and I regret selling mine. Wish I kept it in the closet for just in case.

Yeah, you are right. Usually we make it work and if we don't get the stuff we end up regretting it. Thanks for the advice !!

LOL, we must be from the same "Day", I remember the term "stacked" referred to a pair of incredible projectiles, or, "floatation devices", or, "Hey, can I have those for a minute.....or two?"

How's about stacking bookies on top of the subs with proper vibration control. Reposition/recalibrate for ideal room placement. Would pretty much take the place of towers but offer better overall control. Just a thought.

Yes indeed, that Anti-Mode is awesome. It's a game changer for calibrating subs to your room. Mine isn't going anywhere.

This might not help you but in pro audio, when I stack/ couple my EV subs, it does throw sound more evenly in larger rooms on top of the added 3db.
