Hi everybody,
This would be my first official post on a Polk forum (I figure the test area doesn't count). I've been a fan of the Polk Audio sound since my dad bought a pair of Monitor10s in the early eighties. Over the past year I have assembled a system that brings a smile to my face every time I start it up. My most recent addition is the SVS sub (received about a week ago). I can now say with certainty that the only thing that sounds better than a Polk Audio speaker system is a Polk Audio speaker system that is complemented by an SVS subwoofer! My thanks go out to all of the informed people that frequent these forumswithout you I would never have discovered SVS! Im gonna get my AVIA disc and SPL meter this weekend; hopefully the calibration process wont be too complicated (the speaker calibration section of my receivers manual looks a bit daunting)!

Welcome and congrats.
way cool that you get to set up your sub by ear first, get used to what your fealing in the foundation of your house and then get your measure on. Don't overdrive your subs and all will be good. I have not blown up a pair since the first month after purchase:D  and SVS hooked me up. I will be loyal through all sub upgrades for my entire addiction:p

Wow HBombToo, it looks like we have very similar systems save for the fact that you've got MUCH more subwoofer power going on there! I have a pretty big HT room so I was a bit concerned that one PB1 wouldn't cut it but it's sounding great so far! I'll be sure to take your advice and not overdrive my SVS. I unfortunately bottomed out my previous sub (PSW450) a few times so I know just how bad that sounds (can't be healthy for the driver)!Mains: Polk RT800i

Tour2ma,
You're certainly right, I DO need to thank Dr. Spec. His posts were a large part of the reason that I bought the PB1. I'd love to post pics but I haven't invested in a digital camera yet. I've got the basic black version (looks about as inconspicuous sitting in the corner of my room as a speaker this size could look).Mains: Polk RT800i

tonkovich,
If I'd taken the time to read your sig, I wouldn't have asked... lol
Pics of installations are always enjoyed... Especially if they include babes in bikinis...

Oops, I guess I forgot to mention that I've been (silently) hanging around here for several months now. Not sure why I waited so long to post something, maybe wanted to learn a thing or two first...Check out Doc Spec's shootout between the PB1 and the HSU STF3.
Yeah, I read the review and have been following that thread. I wasn't sure if "Dr. Spec" and "Edward J M" were the same person, but I knew Dr. Spec was involved. The best, most complete review I've read in a long time! I actually bought the PB1 before the review went up so I was very happy to see how things turned out. I had been thinking about going with a Hsu instead.Mains: Polk RT800i

That's our Doc.. and I dare you to find a spelling, grammar, or punctuation error in the entire post... his, not mine...
And the boy I was referring to was "Doc"...More later,

Thanks for the kind words, guys. Tony did indeed PM me and of course I'd be glad (as would anyone here) to help him with calibration.
Yes, that's my shoot-out over at HTF. You're right tour, that was a real bear time wise, but a lot of fun too!"What we do in life echoes in eternity"

I think the guys writing for Stereophile could learn a few things from our Doc!
Great job Ed.

Thanks for the compliments, guys. The one guy will be keeping the PB1-ISD and we're trying to find a home for the STF-3.
Expect some additional information to be added to that report (that's the beauty of the on-line format):
1) the tune point of each sub
2) THD limited output at 40, 50, 60 Hz
3) a better explanation of the score for the amplifier feature set

Anyone willing to guess which subwoofer I am buying? LoL
Lets just say, I am tired of seeing Made In China Also
BTW - GREAT REVIEW DOC- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Wow. Great review Doc. Very enjoyable read. Detailed, very technical where it had to be, scientific, with subjective and objective qualities.
Keep this up and you might be able to retire from your day job one day;)
Thanks for the continuing education on subwoofers and relentless enthusiasm you have for this hobby. Like you said over at HTF, you did this for all of us. -
if i didn't just spend $500 getting the car tuned up. that irs check is coming in the mail though. nice job doc. unlike the audiophile writers, though, there is no need to read between the lines to see who the winner is. knowing my wife, she'd pick the hsu anyways. can u hear her now "That one looks better, so it must be better".
