Sounds good Polkmaniac, thanks for the update. Personnaly I like Sony, I feel that the amp section of my little 895 is well balenced, clean and accurate. What ever you choose, I am glad that you are going into open minded.

    Rocky,
A schematic or block diagram would be very helpful. I'll keep searching. If I find anything I'll let you know.

    Polkmaniac,
Great write up. From what you posted, I'm guessing the Sony ES is your sound. The Sony don't do very well for power ratings on their lower line receivers but I'm sure the ES line like the one you demoed is accurate. So are you finished with your receiver demos or are you planning to go out and listen some more. You should also demo some Harman/Kardon. I've always liked their sound, very warm and dynamic. If you want to go on a little higher level you could demo some Rotel, NAD, B&K, etc. Are planning to have a HT or music only system?

I've always owned HK, and I love their gear. I was looking at the 520 and 525 and liked them both. Personally, I like the HK sound a little better than anything else, but I don't really care to deal with the issues that some people have had with their products. I know they've had some reliability issues and that with my luck I'd end up with one of the bad units. I'm getting a good deal on a STR-DA2ES and so am going that route. I'm going to save up some cash over the next year or so an invest in some of the higher end stuff, maybe Krell or Sunfire...This system will be used for HT and music...will have a 2 chanel setup someday.

P.S. I would have liked to audition the HK gear along side the others above...but for the overall quality and value I get, I would still stick by the Sony I'm getting.
