For Sale - SDA 1c - Fully Modded - Washington DC Metro Area - $600

Hi all - it is with a heavy heart and a fear of (pre)sellers remorse that I offer my fully modded SDA1c's for sale here on the forum. I really enjoy these speakers a great deal, and have done (more or less) all of the recommended upgrades that can be done to 1c's as outlined in the very fine SDA Handbook from Dr. Raife Smith (DarqueKnight).

Bottom line is I came into an excellent deal on some LSIM705's I just couldn't pass up and now I want to pass along some excellent SDA's to a Polkie that will appreciate them as I have.

IF I did not have a set of newly and fully modded 2bTL's in the room, (a.k.a. "Mantown") there is no way I would be parting with these gems, I truly love them. (I find it hard to imagine not having at the option of SDA for listening honestly.) I'm certain I'll have sellers remorse on these but I just cannot keep that many large speakers if I want to stay married.

I am in the Washington DC area - 22066 is the zip. I would rate these maybe a conservative 7/10. Walnut veneer wood end caps I believe. I had planned to resecure the side grills (but they're not falling off or anything), the bottoms have some marks as you might expect from use, the tops are pretty clean and the rest is more or less in great shape. They have been fed good clean power from my McCormack DNA-1 for the last year or so and I don't abuse them whatsoever.

To date these speakers have the following mods:

Updated crossovers by David at DHS Speaker Service (Westmassguy) with Solen down low and Sonicap high with Mills resistors. Polyswitch has been deleted.

New heavy duty SDA cable, Gold over copper 5-way binding posts, and Speak-On's installed on the binding posts cups (and SDA cable of course) by Westmassguy.

New Erse SuperQ inductors tuned by Westmassguy installed.

Drivers have Dynamat Xtreme and have been Loctite Powergrabbed to prevent shift.

NoRez from GR Research installed behind the MW's as per the SDA Handbook.

Cabinets sealed around the perimeter as per the SDA Handbook.

New RDO-194 Tweeters (4x) from Polk installed.

Brass floor spikes installed from Meniscus Audio.

I have a set of Larry's Rings that have not been installed yet that I will include for the new owner to install.

What are the opportunities with these speakers remaining? Of course, the sky is the limit! You could choose to go with higher quality caps down low. You could certainly make a new SDA cable with your choice of speaker wire to match your current wire. You could choose to go with a highest quality 5-way binding post like Cardas/Vampire. You could switch the NoRez to Blackhole. New high quality internal wiring?... sure! ...like I said, sky is the limit. You don't need to do those things, they sound fantastic as is, but you could if you like to tinker.

Would greatly prefer a local sale, I don't have the original boxes/packing or honestly the desire to take care of those arrangements myself. I'm open to driving a reasonable distance to deliver/meet halfway as well given we can work out the logistics.

Thanks Gunther, the tough thing for me is parting with them at a rational price, when (emotionally and monetarily) all you've done with them far exceeds what you can get back out of them!

Like we always say, I did it because I loved listening to them and seeing what they could do - not because I was going to get it all back when I sold them.

Thanks guys! I keep toying with pairing in my 800v/a dread on this sale for a new package price. Everything you need in one Polkie sale price... We'll see, if these don't get much interest as is... who knows... Probably better to keep them separate.

I have some 705s awaiting a finished basement in the area myself. Otherwise I'd ask more questions; I'm within a metro ride of you.

Good luck with the sale; I really appreciate reading the thread where you brought them up to speed. Sales like this risk getting me in trouble.

OR I am willing to separate.

1. Larry Rings (for 1c's) for $70 shipped (have some oxidation on them as I recall)
2. SDA 1c's for $450

Modded 1c's for $450. Not gonna see that very often!
