Enjoying Monitor 5A's

I've been spending some time working in my basement the past couple days. I needed some tunes so I have been spinning a bunch of vinyl and CD's. My system is a Marantz PM5004, CD5004, Pioneer PL-530 and Monitor 5A's. The 5A's are all stock and don't usually get too much play time. When I did play them, the top end was always sooth, as the Peerless tweeters are known. However, the bass seemed a little lacking. I did re-position the Daycron which had fallen behind the PR's but they still seemed a little thin. Maybe it is my ears adjusting, though I don't think so, but the bass seems to be improving to the point that I see why people rave about these speakers. They really sound nice and the Marantz drives them very well for its modest power rating.

Is it possible for speakers built in 1983 to stiffen up from lack of use and go through break in again?

IMO, I think it is ears adjusting. Going from SDA 1C's to the 5's I am saddened by the lack of bass. I'll bump the tone control or bass booster some, but eventually turn it off. I start to pick up on the bass more, although I still don't feel it like larger speakers. When I go back to the SDA's sometimes I feel like the sub volume is too high. The sub is not even on.
