Input on SDA 2B upgrade
Hi there, so i just picked up a pair of nice 2Bs off of my local Craigslist. I'm loving the way they sound but as always I want to replace the caps to bring them up to par. I have a dilemma though. I dont want to spend a ton of money right now so here are my two options and I want your opinions.
I have a pair of Rdo 194 tweeters my monitor 7s I could swap to the 2bs and then upgrade the caps with more expensive ones like Sonicap since id be saving tweeter money.
Or should I perform the TL upgrade with the 198 tweets but then use cheaper caps, something like Dayton since I have to buy new tweeters this route.
What do you guys think??

Just IMO, but Id enjoy them as is for a while, and use that time to save a few more $$ so you can do both.
The TL mod is certainly worth the small additional effort and cost, this way you'll be able to appreciate what the improvements have accomplished. You also may save yourself by finding a sale on Caps while you're waiting.
FWIW I think you can certainly do a blend on the caps, Sonicaps high and Dayton's low, that will save you some money on the upgrade, and the high end is where the caps are most critical.VA HT HK AVR20II, Sony S9000ES CD/DVD/SACD, Polk Audio RC80i / Polk Audio CSi3, 60" Panasonic Plasma, Nordost / Signal Cable A2 / Wireworld / Pangea / Magic Power

It seems Sonicap is the preferred replacement cap around here. Am i correct in assuming that or is there other brands I should look into for equal or lesser money that sound very comparable?

Yes I think you're right, generally most folks on CP seem to prefer the Sonicaps of late.
I used Clarity in mine and I'm very pleased with the results. The Clarity's I used, (there are two lines, PX and ESA) were the higher priced ESA - but on sale I still found them for less than the Sonicaps.
The Clarity PX are a more reasonably priced option generally.VA HT HK AVR20II, Sony S9000ES CD/DVD/SACD, Polk Audio RC80i / Polk Audio CSi3, 60" Panasonic Plasma, Nordost / Signal Cable A2 / Wireworld / Pangea / Magic Power

Sonicaps or Clarity ESA, let your checkbook decide. The best way to predict the future is to invent it.
It is imperative that we recognize that an opinion is not a fact.
