As I posted in the sub woofer area my my Sony ES-2000 pre/amp processor has a port for sub woofer. I used the Sony before but never thought about using the sub. As I already posted I used a Y-splitter to get the sub into both my Yamaha RX-665 AVR and now into the Sony pre. This worked wonderfully w/ what sources I played and works well for the 2chl.i-pod, t.v.and i-net radio. Now I just tried this out on the Phono source for my LPs and it's exceedingly loud to where it's shaking my lamp table were the sub sits under. Is there a reason why only the phono source would be so much louder to where I have hit the off sub button and just use the 2Bs alone ?

Hard to say Lew without knowing exactly how it's hooked up and to what inputs and outputs. Whats the phono plugged into, the Sony or Yammie ? Your still using both in the loop ?

You're getting too much rumble from your sub while listening to LP's? That's why most phono pre's have a low pass filter button. It could be that the sub is too close to your turntable or your turntable is just not isolated well enough and your stylus is picking up the rumble the sub is putting out, a sort of feedback loop.

Tony, phono is plugged into phono input of the Sony TA- E2000.The Yamaha has no phono at all.
Nightfall, my sub is miles away from the tt so that's not it. Feedback loop just might be a possibility because of vicinity of the Y-splitter that's Very close. I was pretty confused because the sub is dialed in for all the sources then just goes kinda berzerk for the LPs. It's ok for now because of the remote I can just s can the sub for albums if I have to but I'm still wondering why.
I remember when I ask why a tt needed to be turned louder than more modern sources and Mark Hardy answered that, of course I can't recall exactly the reason and just tried to research that and failed.
Just did a quick reread of the PDF owners manual and no mention of low pass filter at all. Sub woofer is just off or on via remote or on unit. I did notice that the phono section does say for mm carts ONLY but I have a Grado BLACK which they refer to as moving iron so I'm ok there.

No just at the sub itself. Very overbearing right there and again only for LPs. Very strange.

I just thought of something simple. I already know the sub woofer works fine on the Yamaha alone. I never had the sub alone to the Sony pre. That would be a decent process of elimination if I get the louder noise when playing LPs then I'll know it's the pre tt combo and not the Y-splitter combo.

Gotcha....thought you were using a separate phono. Anyway....in the Sony, did you do any setting up of bass management ? The splitter may have something to do with it too as already mentioned. Easy enough to find out.

Yamaha I believe is set at 80hz and I self adjusted and dialed in the sub woofer after I moved and ran the new coax to it. I don't think there is a setting for the sub adjustment on the Sony .There is a sub parameter button but that brings the surround into play and is related to the rears and such. I really should re read the pdf again to see if there is a setting feature for the sub or like I said just temp delete the Y and go direct into the Sony and see what happens.

I think I decoded this thing. On the flop down cover to reveal some controls on the Sony there is a twist knob marked analog. You twist this knob a little too much and the gain is so much a clipping light comes on. Maybe during albums I need to turn this down ? I had to put on my drug store glasses to see this thing...
