I'm planning on buying a new receiver but i do not know which one to pick exactly. My biggest criteria is by far SOUND QUALITY/PRICE, then comes, POWER, listening modes available and quality of the remote. I would appreciate if you guys could point me in the right direction. Thanks:confused:

I currently own the Onkyo 777. This is my third Onkyo, I've listened to others and have liked others. the others I have liked jump up to the $2500-$3000 range (just a tad above the old pocket book) so I still have the Onkyo, but some day I will go to the ultra high end. The Onkyo has all the features I need and it has plenty of outs for upgrades.

i havent been out and looked at the marantz (trying to avoid getting the buy bug). i did look at there mono amps a few years back and liked those.
if the remote is an issue just buy an all in one remote. i purchased the sony rm-av2100 commander, because remotes that come with equipment just dont have enuff learning capability, that and it was easier for the wife to use.
just listen to them on speakers comparible to yours and let your ears decide and then your budget

It is kind of hard to make a valid comparaison in a hi fi dealer. I would have to listen to the same music with the same speakers but different amps.
i would like to hear from peeps that have made some sort of comparaison here

This is a tough decision guy. I bought a Marantz two years ago.. i am very happy with it.. it's not the same model that you're looking at though. But my experience with Marantz has been very good.

I have the SR5000. It's a little underpowered.. but I have a small TV room.. so it's not a problem. Mine does not have any digital outputs.. one drawback that I see now.. wasn't to concerned about it two years ago.. now I am.
I still like the Marantz warm sound. Good mids, wonderful bass but not throbbing or overpowering and highs that are ajustable to suit your needs.

My hearing is not great.. I don't have hearing aids or anything.. but I need just a little more highs when listening to music and DVD's than most other people. so the Marantz works fine for me.

Tough one.. all three brands I find are equally great sounding. I know this doesn't help your decision.. but good luck.

I saw a Carver receiver at a local a/v shop before Christmas. I didn't look REAL close but it sounded great and seemed to have all the bells and whistles. 200wpc, can be had on the net for around 1100 or so.

Like Russ said, NAD is good, I hear good things about Outlaw as well............

I looked at NAD for the HT, but when I was looking they were a little behind the curve, no onboard DTS and the mid range receiver had no pre-amp outs, so I got the Denon 3801, I now have the 3802.

NAD is a fine, well great company in my book, I have always had NAD amps, these were the first "high end" equipment my grass cutting money bought in 1982 or so, I bought the famous 3020 int. amp and matching 4020 tuner, then the matching cass deck.

NAD always gives you big bang for the buck.
    Dodd - Battery Preamp
Monarchy Audio SE100 Delux - mono power amps
    Sony DVP-NS999ES - SACD player
    ADS 1230 - Polk SDA 2B
DIY Stereo Subwoofer towers w/(4) 12 drivers each
    Crown K1 - Subwoofer amp
    Outlaw ICBM - crossover
    Beringher BFD - sub eq

Where is the remote? Where is the $%#$% remote!

damn, you have it narrowed down to 3 very close recievers. the most bang for your buck, in my mind is the marantz. but the denon is great too. i like the onkyo, but i would put both the marantz and denon a slight bit above the onkyo. do you listen to more music or home theater. that may be your deciding factor. i would say musically, the marantz' warm sound is great for stereo listening, not that it will be underwhelming for HT, but the denon may help those bass explosions on DD soundtrack's be felt a little better. with either the denon or marantz, i think you will be happy. hope i helped a little, again, just my .02...

    Have you gone to www.audioreview.com?
Check out what owners, of the equipment you're considering, have to say about it.

I didnt expect that big of a response.

I listen to music more. Well as soon as i step foot in my house i turn the music on but i also like to listen to movies. I dont have to worry about bass that much since my room isnt real big and my 2000's can dish out all the bass i need.

I would like to compare those NAD's you guys are talking about but i dont think anyone sells them over here.

    NAD,

NAD had been around for years, they make quality amps, and recievers, nothing flashy, just solid.. I find them a little behind the cure also, well built and built to last but to compared to the other recievers in it's class right now, I still have to give the edge to denon.. But if you really want I forgot to add B&K on my list of recievers, the 307 is a monster and might actually out perform the denon 5800 in some aspects, it's build quality is equal to the denon flagship and some even dare say it's better, But after is all said and done all we are comparing is which class "B" reciever is the best, we haven't even touched on class "A" components yet.... KRELL anyone??
