this is beginning to get very frustrating
i have purchased some rti12's from circuit city. I have gone through 4 speakers and all have been damaged cosmetically. One of my rti12's is in good shape, i just can't seem to get the second in decent shape. I don't want to give up because i like polk speakers. What do you guys recommend i do if the next speaker is also damaged. Should i contact Polk direct about the problem?

YES!
Tell them what is going on, and tell them which part is broken. Send it in, they will send a replacement. Don't return them.
I am going to take a guess...
The grill?- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
I would un-pack them AT the store. This way you're not having to run back and forth, trying to get a set in decent shape...Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

It's pretty strange that you are having problems with damaged speakers from polk. They usually pack them really well. Klipsch on the other hand has terrible packing and I would expect it from them.

pack them well are u nuts? that styrofoam doesnt stop anything....i've also had problems with damaged speakers....mostly crushed veneer on corners from being dropped...even if the speaker isnt damaged, all of the towers i bought had the styrofoam cracked or shattered in the box....

thank you guys for the response, i finally received one in perfect shape with no cracked grill. I am very happy and glad i stuck with the excellent cust. serv. of circuit city. I would never consider purchasing another brand. I won world nationals (u.s.a.c.) with polk separates (polk mm monitors) in 1995 at Bartles Hall in Kansas City, Missouri. Just a side note to you all, but i really love the speaker and will never change.

I had the same crushed corners issues with most of my Polk's, but thru great customer service....was squared away eventually.
It really helps when you know you will be taken care of by a company, and are not stuck in a bind thru a "non-authorized" purchase. I always knew that Crutchfield would man up.
Marcpam - Glad to hear that you are finally happy Have fun!CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
i just returned them to CC....was a pain in the butt though cuz CC isnt exactly 5 min away. i've found it very easy to get the people at CC to do what you want them to tho. so i've never had any hassels with them.

I've been selling Polk's for 3 years and honestly I don't remember ever seeing a Polk speaker come in damaged off one of our trucks. I did see a PSW505 that had a cracked grill on it that was fedex'd in for a training once. When the Polk rep unpacked it and saw the grill has broken, he immediatedly called Polk to let them know about the damage. It's something they take pretty seriously. -
