I have not forgotten about this at all and have been on step 2 of my own test. While test 1 was to test only speakers running through the preamplifier and and nothing else. After going to a concert last night I decided to up the test anty a bit by going flat w/ all the controls. Of course using balance and volume but that's it. and it sounds ok so far. I get it when Brock, Skip, Jesse say stay away from controls and let the music be your machine to a point. So far it's showing up w/ the music I've played which is Eric Clapton's No Reason To Cry', Steeley Dan's The Best Of The Millennium Collection and The Who's Quadrophenia. All sources are CDs and the pre is my Dynaco PAT-4 flat set factory built.

I adopted this philosophy when I eliminated my AVR's and have never looked back. At one point about 9 months ago - I re-integrated an AVR for a short session and the difference is dramatic IMO, lean and clean is the way to go from now on for me! Kudos for putting it to the listening test!
