Job hunt

So after 40 years of being non-stop employed, I got the ax.
The jobs were moved to "centers of excellence" (that's India and
Costa Rico). So I'm on the search and have had some responses, including
with the company that let me go??!!!. I've had the 1st interview for that job,
and have more scheduled next week. Interesting enough, nothing in the
Dallas/Ft Worth area. So looks like I'm moving.

Hang in there man. I'm sure it's going to be a pain in the arse but it will work out in the end. I have had that happen more than once. I got a bachelor degree in network engineering, and had military training in computers - worked for Hewlett Packard, got laid off because they sent my job overseas. Then I worked for IBM, got laid off because they sent my job overseas. I gave up on the field after that.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Been there too and understand your pain. I'd think there would be jobs in our area. Not sure what your expertise/skill is.... probably the only thing booming in DFW area right now is the housing market. (Anyone looked at their county appraisals lately?) Gotta get shelters built for all those Toyota people moving from CA.
Hang in there... may take some time, but the right job is there... I too had to change fields when telecom dried up.Post edited by Legender onMusic: Oppo103 - Parasound JC2 - Parasound A21- SDA 3.1

If you can move that will be cool. I moved from WV to MD for my first job where I spent 20 yrs and then from MD to CO for my second job of which I've been here 8 yrs. Moving to a new area for a new gig is a fun thing and keeps you entertained for at least 5 yrs.Vinyl, the final frontier...

I know your pain. I had to move as well about 5 years ago, same thing (sorta). Job was moved overseas, China. Moving just sucks as you get older I think. It especially stinks when you have kids in school. However, you have to go where the jobs are, good luck in your search (and possible move)...Remember, when you're running from something, you're running to something...-me

Sorry to hear that Keith. I know you have contemplated moving for a while now, but it's usually better on your own terms. Good luck on your journey pal.

Goodyear Lawton plant is always hiring, pay and benefits are pretty good. If you have some college and don't mind kissing a little butt they will make you a manager of something in no time. But I refer to this part of the state as the armpit of Oklahoma.HT:

I've got feelers out on a number of jobs. A lot of them are going to require a security clearance. I've had them in the past, so I don't see any big hurdles in getting one now. Telecommunications is in the dumpster right now, so I'm dusting off
previous job experiences in other fields. Biggest thing is going to be my age.
58 year olds are not in hot demand. I've got a couple of second interviews coming up and am doing technical testing on Monday for a job. I'm hoping grey hair
doesn't scare them off."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -
May check the Austin area. They're always looking for tech guys around here.
