70RT orientation

Hello, I recently installed a pair of Polk 70RT in-ceiling speakers to function as the surrounds for my 5.1 system. They are located just outside each end of the sofa opposite the TV screen/fronts/center channel wall, and are level with or just barely behind where people's ears would be when sitting in the sofa. I'm wondering if there is a recommended orientation for these in relation to the room/listeners. The tweeter and mid-range drivers are angled and one or the other can be facing the middle of the room, or listeners' ears, etc. I'm assuming at the very least the two speakers should be oriented symmetrically with each other, but other than that I don't know if there is a recommended driver orientation.

Thanks,
Greg

    Hi Greg,
It's been my experience that owners fall into two different categories. One group prefers to hear as much surround information as possible, they enjoy the feeling of being immersed in a sound field coming at them from the front and rear. This user would direct the mid-range and tweeter towards the bulk of the listeners calling as much attention as possible to the surround channels.
The second group prefers a more subtle approach, wanting a diffuse and less directional approach. They would try and use available reflecting surfaces to bounce the surround information before reaching the listeners. Maybe side walls or the wall behind the listeners to cascade the sound and broaden the envelopment of the surround information.
    I hope this is helpful.
    Cheers, Ken

    Hi Ken,

Thanks for the reply. What you said makes sense, although in this case I think the mid-range and tweeter are directed opposite of each other so I'll have to just experiment and see (or hear) what I like best.
