Boston Acoustics A70

Been looking for some speakers to round out a stereo system for my sons new apartment. I think I've mentioned before he's an underpaid high school history teacher, so I wanted to get him something halfway decent he wouldn't get for himself... (Mom's budget didn't match mine though unfortunately...) until now!

Girl Scout yard sale - picked up two Boston Acoustics A70's (with BA stands looks like), the surrounds were completely fried but otherwise very clean. Not the original Seas tweeters, these are the square BA branded ones but still - get good reviews from what I've read. $10 for the pair with stands seemed pretty good!

Already ordered the re-foam kit, some Dynamat Xtreme (I was out and the woofer baskets ring like bells), and pulled the crossovers (very simple affair as you can see) - looks like just two 1ohm sandcast resistors and a 6uf cap - ordered some Mills MRA-12 resistors and Sonicap Gen 1 caps to redo those as well. When I'm done I think I'll have about $90 in them - should make a decent first set up paired with an H/K AVR245 receiver I picked up for free and an old Pio TT. Hell I might only have $150 in the whole rig!

I got a pair recently and did the cap in the crossover and they had been recently refoamed. I also bought new terminal cups with binding posts. I dislike the spring clips. I found them on eBay. A pair cost less than $10 with shipping.
    Just a thought.

Hey thanks @pumpkinman! I was thinking about something like that as well - those spring cups are the lowest common denominator. Did you just search by size on eBay?

Thanks again @pumpkinman - that's perfect - I'll measure when I get home and confirm the size. The kids not gonna know what hit him.

Happy with the sound of your A70's? They seem to get a pretty good review around here.

Oh yeah, I mounted the crossover elsewhere this cup didn't have flat spot to mount the crossover to. I made a simple set up and hot glued it to the back of the speaker.
I can if needed send you pics.
