Living near Deadwood and knowing most of the history played there, I must say I enjoyed it very much!
The history of Deadwood is as exciting as it gets. A small camp town that went from 500 ppl to 10,000 in a six month period....all for the dream of striking it rich.
    A great series!

I stopped in Deadwood around 10 years ago. Landed at Rapid City kind of late in the day. Broke our asses to get to Mt. Rushmore before it closed. It's incredible at night. Then we drove to Deadwood for dinner. Cool little town out in the middle of noplace, that has got a incredible percentage of awesome looking babes. And it wasn't even a weekend night. And it was colder than ****.

I thought the story line was enticing. The only problem I have with it was all of the cursing. Did people really drop the F-bomb that much back then? I can’t ever remember seeing a western with that much language. The Sopranos couldn’t hold a candle to Deadwood’s town folk telling each other to go F@%$ themselves.

    Jrau,

I thought the exact same thing about the cursing. I am no prude, but it makes the Sopranos look like its pg-13 to what i was hearing on Deadwood.

Overall i liked it, and will watch it again.

My Dad and I cuss with the best of them and we sat there thinking it was too much, kind of took away from the storyline a bit, I am sure it won't keep us from watching the series, just seemed over the top.

The Fbomb, I was asking the same question, when did the f word appear? Was it really used in the mid-late 1800's??

I agree about the cursing but still give it two thumbs up. I don't per say have anything against curing it just seemed to distract from the story abit to me. Look forward to next Sunday!

Yea, another great episode. I am enjoying the series much like I did Carnivale and the Sopranos. HBO has a lock on great programming IMO.

Don't you guys think that Swearengen is actually Tony Soprano? :)

Also, philosophical question: since prostitution has been around so long, how come it is still illegal today? :D

Had a college prof tell me that the F*** word is an abbreviation from midevil times meaning:

    For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge

His story was that if you were caught doing the deed you were placed in the town stockade with the saying etched on the stockade.

I with ya! HBO productions are consistently good.
Also, speaking of Carnivale does anyone know when new stuff is coming out?
philosophical question: since prostitution has been around so long, how come it is still illegal today?
Well, I can't speak to that but would like to know more about the "half price" deal. :)

Is that the same as a "Happy Ending" when at the massage parlor? :)

It is interesting that the Swearengen, sounds like Swear Engine...and he does seem to flow smoothly thru the alphabet. :)

And don't forget "Band of Brothers".

I missed #1, but caught last nite. It was alright and I'll likely watch more, but it's not in the same league as "Canivale" IMO.

That's a good question. I imagine we probably really don't want to know:eek: but I'm sure it was a little more involved(read painful) than "take these and come back in a 10 days" I seem to remember something about hot wires or pokers however that may just be my faulty memory.

Yeah last night was a much better episode IMHO. I always think episode one in any show is probablyt the weakest because you are setting up all the story lines.

And all I know is I would not want to be stincking my "poker" in any of those whores. Ewww imagine the crab rate back then!

I continue to enjoy this series. Powers Boothe is a big plus. Should make for some interesting scenes with the competition. Hope Alma figures it out and keeps the claim. Ian McShane is doing a fantasic job and kudos to the rest of the cast as well.

I just watched the third episode today and I am about ready to watch the fourth. The third was fantastic, and it really set the tone for the series. I thought the first two were very mediocre, but I wanted to give it a chance. I am sure glad I did.

    Thanks HBO!!!

Poor WB he was one the great things about the series, oh well, guess you have to maintain some historical correctness.

I think the Pinkerton's showing up might spice the show a bit more. The new gin mill/gambling casino/brothel shows some promise for the story line, yea I am hooked.

Anybody know if ESPN is bringing back Playmakers?
