I picked up a pair of 5jr+'s with the SL-2000. They look like the attached picture. The sealer on the sides look more like a rubber insert with a perfect taper than the standard hand filled line and small circle at the ends. The picture is from the internet, but looks very similar mine. I'll have to look closer at mine. Maybe the process became computer controlled, but I swear mine looked like rubber inserts or covers that came from a mold.
The other odd thing is they don't have nearly as bad of a hump. I thought maybe my ears were "dented" since I haven't replaced the SL-2000's on my SDA's yet These SL-2000's are much smoother than my SDA's and another pair of ported 5jr's with the SL-2000's Maybe the cross overs are off, but IMO they didn't sound too far off.
I haven't done a ton of listening. They were garage speakers and flea market specials. Dirt is literally coming off them. They need a major cleaning.

They are definitely SL-2000's but I have never seen any with the rubber like this. All I had ever seen were ones that looked like this.
It looks like the rubber was squeezed out by hand.
If I get the time I'll swap them with the other 5jr's before I do the crossovers and replace them with RDO's. I am curious if something in the crossover is helping them or this is an odd pair of SL2000's. The peak doesn't stand out near as bad. -
They did vary over productions runs, I'm sure. And not every SL2000 sounds the same. They still come up short and ramps up as volume is applied, but based on use, storage, age (could be last production replacement run) will affect how they sound. Some will sound passable, some will sound horrid.
H9"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass Pass Labs XA25 | EE Avant Pre | EE Mini Max Supreme DAC | MIT Shotgun S1 | Pangea AC14SE MKII | Legend L600 | BlueSound Node 3 - Tubes add soul!
