Sound bar hook up

I picked up a sound bar / sound processor Yamaha ysp-2200. I have a fairly newer tv. It has hdmi & optical. I just want to use the sound bar & sub for tv only. Do i use Optical cord to sound bar. I am using the Optical cord to receiver now & it works pretty good..... Id have to look at tv to tell how many hdmi ports there is. It is a LG55 about 14mos old.... I have no idea how to use hdmi cord from tv to receiver/sound bar. Would i go into tv settings & send signal out to receiver/sound bar via hdmi ? Or should i use Optical like im doing already-the sound bar has Optical ? Any feedback is appreciated

    I use optical, as well, but I think I started from there mostly because my processor doesn't have HDMI. I can't remember, but I think I read something one time that said that optical is limited to 5.1?

    How many HDMI devices do you have?
    Any other equipment to consider?

    Looks like you can just run HDMI from your TV to the YSP. Any other HDMI devices to the YSP, and then use the YSP for switching, just like you would with any AVR.

    Or, I suppose you could keep everything connected to your TV, and just run the one HDMI out to the YSP and keep switching HDMI through the TV and just leave the YSP for volume control and effects, maybe like you were before. Not sure how the use of HDMI out from your TV would affect the optical signal though - it might disable it, as in, you may need to select one or the other for audio output in your TV? Without seeing the TV or manual, kind of hard to say.

    Given that the YSP is supposed to be able to support 7.1, I'd give a shot to trying to use the HDMI so that you can be sure you're getting the proper audio transfer. People sometimes report lip sync issues with split audio and video signal, but I've never noticed it, personally.

    So how's it sound?!?

    I hooked it Optical & just got done doing the 'set up' with mic. I know my wife is going to like it & im sure she will say "when you getting rid of all the other stuff" it sounds just ok. Im gonna try some movies & give it a once over
