DD EX & DTS ES ?'s

Just when I thought I had it all figured out, I came across something a bit confusing...
To decode a DVD that is DD EX or DTS ES, you obviously need a receiver/processor that is compatable. (6.1/7.1)
But what about the DVD player? Does the DVD player have to be "compatable" also? Or is just any old DVD player with a digital output cable of sending an EX/ES signal?

Not too many 6.1, and no 7.1 (that I know of) mixes out there, but all you need is the digital off your dvd to get the sound. No special player needed. There are two ways to argue with women. Both of them are wrong.
