Replace old Armacell or leave it be?

Hello again,
I finally have a clear weekend to install Larry's rings and have a question. Last year I Dynamatted the drivers and PR and installed them with Armacell gasket material. The Armacell is now compressed quite flat. Should I replace this gasket with new Armacell or count on the driver resealing itself with the old material? If I replace, should I peel the old material or just add another layer?

It is suppose to be flat/compressed so the drivers are tight to the baffles with just enough gasket material to keep airtight. No you don't want another layer. So if the gasket surface is intact, reuse.
The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

By no means an expert here, I know Jesse would say if the old original gaskets were still viable use them and nothing else. If not then Armaflex/cell is better than the old Mortite application. The compression of the tightening of the screws and rings is exactly what you want and by undoing it I doubt will hurt it's integrity. If there is really an air leak or overly compressed then just do them over again. I used acetone to remove the old gasket residue. It evaporates fast so no chance that it weeps on the speaker surround.Mojo Audio Illuminati v3>>Quantum Byte w/LMS>>Rpi/PiCoreplayer>> Starlight 7 USB >> Mojo Audio Mystique v2 SE>>ModWright SWL 9.0 SE Signature>>Hafler DH-500 Amp+ (Musical Concepts Fully Modded)>>

I am back on this project. Thanks for your answers. I need to replace the Armacell on one driver and the PR. The material is very well stuck to the basket and shreds as I pull it or scrape it off. I wonder if paint thinner would be OK to dissolve the adhesive. Or is there a better way?

Thanks machone. Some acetone on a Scotch-brite pad worked fine.

It seems like with rings, you would hardly need any gasket.
-
It's supposed to compress, as long as it seals all around, I would leave it alone. The rings will keep it tight.

On one of the drivers the gasket slipped while installing it last year. On the PR, I had to drill new holes when I put in the hurricane nuts last year. The originals were too close to the inside edge. Since the filler I used in the old holes left a small dimple, I am replacing this gasket, too.
