I was at a business meeting in Dawson Creek, British Columbia and during the break I was walking around and the hotel had these old pictures hung in the hallway of the United States Corp Engineers. Some pretty cool pictures.
Cheers

Yep.
The whole damn thing was built by a bunch of GIs
In an amazingly short time.
I hope it never gets paved the full length.
It should remain a test of manhood.
Try doing it on an old BMW motorcycle with a sidecar. Five spare wheels, many, many tires and tubes, gas, and oil. Never mind the water, food, ammo, rifles, and booze. Did it in 1971. Never broke down once. But I did spend several hundred miles with my buddies Harley hangin on a rope tied to the back of the BMW.
The beemer had Earles front forks and rode like a dream.
Damn, I wish I had never sold that old bike. -

There wasn't much traffic way back when, but as soon as I saw the dust cloud approaching I would pull as far off the road as possible. Those big truck would drag half the dust and loose rocks along with them. Not too much fun when you are on a motorcycle. Luckily they were few and far between. Saw a lot of Moose and Deer. No bears or wild dogs on my trip.

I met someone in Texas whose bike looked like it went through a rock storm. He told me he rode it over the Alcan during the summer. There wasn't much on the bike that didn't have dents on it.
