Going to hear Robert Cray

I have to share... Robert Cray is passing through our little piece of Idaho tonight, touring his way to Montana and on to the mid-west. We have front row seats, right in the center. I hope it is a good show. It's always good to hear some live music to keep my ears "calibrated".

Cray is a gifted guitarist, but his voice is just as good or better. I'm always blown away by artists that can play and sing that well. We went to hear Robben Ford recently in the old historic theatre in Grant's Pass, Oregon and his skills are much the same. Cray has also surrounded himself with talent for both songwriting and performing, and that doesn't hurt either.

I attended the Robert Cray show at Billy Bobs in Fort Worth about 2 years ago. Was one of the best shows I have seen. Very talented. You should enjoy it very much.

Saw him up at the casino in Oklahoma.
    Very good artist.

Well it was a great concert. He was touring with keyboards (Dover Weinberg), bass (Richard Cousins), and drums (Les Falconer). As I wrote a friend earlier, he has a scary good command of the guitar (all you can do is shake your head). They played a great version of "Don't You Even Care" full of sick, dissonant chords, and several tunes from Midnight Stroll (one of his best IMHO), in addition to some newer stuff. The venue was packed, the band seemed to genuinely be having a great time, and it came through in the performance.

Yes, "Great Big Old House" is a great tune, and it well describes some experiences from my own life. Cray didn't perform anything from Shame + a Sin, but I think it is his finest album. Check out "Up and Down". Dark and wicked.
