Marantz NR1604?

I'm thinking of getting a Marantz NR1604 for my living room HT setup. I read that it has really good sound, but I'm a bit concerned about the limited 50W/channel. I'm using RTi38 fronts, CSi30 center, and Monitor 30 surrounds. Would it be able to drive them at a respectable volume without overheating (it doesn't have a fan).

Your speakers are VERY easy to drive, and that Marantz's 50 wpc are as much as many mass market receiver rated at 100+ wpc, so you will be fine. I run the 1403, same watts less channels, and it does have good sound quality for the money. It also has pre outs for the mains, so if you want louder add an amp and then you'll really be fine.

I will say that the yammie in my sig is more powerful and has 7.2 pre outs, so if you have the coin I would recommend it over the marantz. It also has nice SQ and a lot more features...

Yes I think that's probably a good idea if you want to use all 7 internal amplification channels and you want to be able to crank it up. I still think given how easy your speakers are to drive you would be fine unless you want ear-bleeding levels, but better safe than sorry. My Marantz is in the master bedroom which isn't super big, and I rarely crank it since its the bedroom. And I am only using 3 of the 5 channels, and the surrounds are rarely engaged...

It will probably be OK if you're set on it but there are better options IMO. That said, your speakers are easy to drive. Add a sub and run them as smalls and you'll be OK.

I was asking because I just saw one listed on Craigslist. What would you recommend? (I do have a sub, so that takes a bit of pressure off the amp...)

Depends on the $$. Your room size and how loud you like to listen factor in as well.

It has good sound quality, but if you want loud look elsewhere.

Thank for the advice. I'd like to use all 7 channels, so this little guy would be struggling to keep up. I'll keep looking.....
