Monitor 5A's sound dull/veiled and I think I found out why.

With the 6502 in there I am thinking of dropping in the original crossover (27uF/2.5ohm) again to hear what happens.

For today's experiment I dropped a MW6502 in with the 5jr crossover. We have bass again!
That makes some sense since the 5jr used the MW6502, as did the 5B with the larger cabinet and AFAIK slightly different tuned PR.

From a an online crossover calculator and an Android app, I came up with @1.5k crossover for the 5jr unless I was doing something wrong.
If the tweeter cannot go that low then it will miss those frequencies. That document with the 3k crossover reference is what I first saw when making my modded 5jr's (ported)
I looked at that a little while back, and as I recall came up with something around 3K for the 5jr crossovers. I think this is documented as well. I had to play with the tweeter resistance to match the RDO194 and RDO198 with the different capacitor values and same inductor.

It is worth a shot. I think something is off with those crossovers though. That might confirm it. I have MW6500's and the 27µF / 2.5 Ohm crossovers, and they sound great. The bass naturally starts to roll off between say 80-50Hz. I found a boost at around 50Hz on down helped flatten things out, but did give them a little extra boost in the 60-80 range. Also check for leakage anywhere or torn surrounds on the PR's. This hurts the bass. I also found I got a little better bass with the black '83 basket PR's vs the earlier silver basket ones.
