Here we go!!!

So I got my very good condition, bone stock SDA 1As a few months ago. They had slept for many, many years. With a pending move, I haven't had much time for them, but I have had the chance to spike them and dampen the driver baskets. I decided to remove the poly switches and replace them with .5 ohm Mills Resisters. Top end opened up as suggested but now i have the 3KHz "shine" that i had heard about. Looks like it is time for the Silk Dome Tweeters. Here we go!!! Does it ever end?

    crashb4, welcome to the forum.
I completely rebuilt my 1A's last year with great results.
Before you order new 194 tweeters from Polk consider deleting the two outside dimensional tweeters and save some money. I did this as suggested by veterans of this forum and never looked back. It was discovered that they are not needed and can add artifacts to the image.
You can disconnect the outside tweeters and give it a try. Be sure to wrap the disconnected wires with black tape.

Dimensional tweeters deleted. Much prefer the sound without them. For the record, these are some of the best sounding speakers I have ever owned. I have had Klipsch, Paradigm and B&W. I moved from the sub and sattelite back to the big boy stereo setup. I got sick and tired of my speakers screaming at me with compressed nonsense. Very happy with the choice. I am running these with an Adcom amp / pre amp and with a Dynaco St-70 when I need my tube fix. Very versitile speakers. Looking forward to getting all I can from these puppies. X-over rebuild still to come.
