I did it. Pulled the trigger on a 30L from Silk Audio. Wow, that was a huge turn in direction from what I was planning, but I'm ok with it.

Thanks michaeljhsda2 for your inspiration! I'll let you guys know what I think when it gets here!

Rex81, you have me looking at those on eBay too. You made a fast direction change.

Haha, that's kind of how I roll. Once I get an idea in my head, I know it's not leaving, so instead of agonizing about it, I just pull the trigger. B)

    Are your SRS 2's stock?

No. I've done all mods except crossovers.

I'll take my Yamaha PC2002M all day over commie Chinese products. Combined with a Parasound p5 and lots of room , which isn't the case with so many setups I see on this forum. I mean , what's the point cramming SDAs into corners or blocking the side throw with bookcases ? I tried other tube and SS and the Yamaha just sounds bigger and fills everything out nicely. The PC2002 is the same amp as the M2 but with pro I/O. I also tried a big Crown pro amp and it was awful. For the money, the Yamaha is a nice powerful amp.

TForan, I have no doubt that your PC2002M works well for you. It's a highly regarded amp. But alas, it's well into the "vintage" category by now, and I'm not interested in anything that requires servicing.

And surely you're not condemning a product you've never heard just because it happens to be built within a different type of economy, right?

I'm using a high power pro amp too, but I like to try new things. This is about as far away from what I have now that it should at least be fun to see the differences.
  • Not condemning, just would rather not buy from CC any more than I have to.
What pro amp are you using?

    Fair enough.

Shhh... Don't tell anyone, because I don't want to get banned, but I'm running a Crown XLS 1500. I like it a lot. 525 wpc into 4 ohms. It whips the SRS 2s into shape and the power meters barely blip. I only heard the fan come on once. And that was only because it was between tracks. It has tons of authority, tight bass, and crystal clear presentation. Very neutral. But I wouldn't call it cold or dry. Oh, and I got it brand new from Amazon for $175 shipped with a 3 year warranty. The only thing I think it's missing is that I've heard a wider soundstage on some of the other amps I've tried.

But like I said, I'm interested to try something very different. If only to see what the fuss is all about.
  • I tried a Crown. Did not like at all, but we all hear things differently.

That's for sure. There's a guy on some of the other forums who owned a Parasound HCA-1000A and a Crown XLS at the same time and sold the Parasound.
