Dynamatting Oppo Help

Where can I put Dynamat? Can I cover the entire top of the transport leaving a circular hole where there is a circular metal plate screwed down? There are zero vent slots in the top cover, I can completely line that? Should I remove the PCB's and Dynamat underneath them or just the visible areas?

My worry about Dynamatting under the PCB's is the bottom of the PCB and/or solder joints coming in contact with the Dynamat and making magic smoke.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

A little goes a long way. Cover the raised rectangle, put some on the circle leaving the screws exposed and on any open bare areas on the chassis bottom and walls. Do not put any under the boards. Also, line the underside of the lid.Political Correctness'.........defined

I stayed well away from the edges of the lid just out of fear of it getting in the way of putting the lid back on properly.

Okay I'm calling it good enough. I purposely stayed away from the two white plastic pieces that are wrapped in wire in the last picture. Wasn't sure if the Dynamat would interfere with those or not.

That should be fine. When you flick your fingernail on any of those surfaces now it sound dead, no ringing.
Just one thing, check that the strips on the side walls of the lid are not going to come in contact with the chassis side walls as the black tar will stick.Political Correctness'.........defined

Nope. The screw threads in the lid are raised and keep the lid from closing down enough for the Dynamat to touch the chassis.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Ok good, just wanted you to check that.Political Correctness'.........defined

I appreciate it, thank you.
It feels way more solid now, as if the lid is thick metal instead of thin riiiiiiiiiiiing. The tray now closes with a "thunk" instead of a "tink".
I hope my ridiculous choice of words makes sense. It's hard to put noises and sounds into words on a screen.
I'd do my AVR too but I don't really care. It's not involved in playing back CD's or LP's and it would be much more difficult to do anyway. The lid has a lot of ventilation holes and it would just be a pain to get any Dynamat anywhere inside it.

No time like the present. Put on some music and grab a screw driver, tape measure, sharpie, and scissors.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

On a serious side, I've got some sound deadening material left over from my SDA job to do my 93, might just copy what you've done as it looks pretty good.
Do it to it. Don't skip the Marantz. You listen to redbook CD's on the Marantz and everything else on the Oppo or do you not have SACD's and only use the Oppo for movies?afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

If you listen to CD's and iPod through the Marantz and don't have SACD's what do you play in the Oppo?
I don't have any SACD's yet either. I really want Pink Floyd in SACD. I check my record store every time but they never have any of them, I'll just have to get it online I guess.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Okay, that makes more sense and was what I figured.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

I am very curious as to how SACD (DSD) sounds vs 192/24 FLAC from HDTracks.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Something like that...I figure I've got the ability to play SACDs now...got to get at least one SACD to try that out with...
I found one copy of it looking for the other. Brothers in Arms is good but I think Shangri La is a better SACD.
To me the ones to have and try are according to my taste
DSOTM, Santana Abraxas are great
