Our granddaughter's a little too young for an Easter egg hunt this year -- we DID have some very tasty Champlain Chocolates (Burlington, VT) chocolate eggs at the in-laws at a both family Easter brunch today after church, though. OK, well, technically, our granddaughter didn't have any of the chocolate eggs... I guess she gets the extracted nutritional value of those tomorrow, from her Mom :- )

It's the start of our built-in AV rack. Made a little more progress today. Will get a better thread tomorrow when I'm on a computer. I think I started my build thread in a built-in subs thread I started a few weeks ago. Here it is tonight. Just need to polyurethane the shelves. Keeping it natural.

Very nice! I like the "floating" look as opposed to just cleating them to the side panels. Plus minimizing vibrations????

^What he said^... Nice work. Can't wait to see the finished build! -
Thanks much! It's been an idea in my head for about 6-7 years now.
Russ, the 'floating' look was not by design - more of a mistake. I used one 4'x8'x3/4" sheet of birch plywood. The shelves are 2 layers (1.5") thick faced with 1x2 clear pine boards. So, I had 96" to work with. The bottom shelf is 42.5" wide. Take the 1.5" off, I had 41" of plywood. That left 55" for the top shelf. I originally wanted the top shelf to go to the edges. Well, with the pine facing, the top shelf is a finished 56.5" wide. The opening is 60" wide... D'Oh!! So, there ya have it... I make my mistakes 'work'!! At $50 a sheet, I wasn't going to buy another sheet just to gain the 3+ inches. (Some may say an extra 3" is priceless though )... I could have cut the bottom shelf planks width-wise on the plywood and made it work, but then the grain would be 90 degrees to the top shelf. I'm OCD like that...
So, floating top shelf it is!! It is a little wobbly though. It should sturdy up once the hardware is all tightened, but I think I will still have to brace the top shelf to the sides with L brackets (hidden) in the back... Additionally, I need to shorten the legs. The top shelf is too close to the top. I need 8" height for my center. As it is now, I only have 7"...(I know, I know... That's what she said). -
I like the hybrid design (intentional floating top shelf or not)!
