Parasound Pre-amps 2100 vs P5

I've come to the conclusion that I'm not going to have space for a dedicated 2 channel system any time in the near future. So, I'm looking at these two pre-amps to get the most out of my HT system which is soon to include a pair of LSiM 705s.
Who has heard both? How much better is the analog section of the P5? If I add a good DAC to the 2100 could the combination be comparable to using the DAC in the P5? What about the phono pre-amps? Currently using a Cambridge 640P. No need for balanced connections so that doesn't really factor into the decision.

I haven't heard either, but after owning numerous parasound pieces usually even their entry level stuff is very respectable and hits way above its weight. You might want to consider an older model/higher-end para pre in the used market.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

I own a P5 not heard the 2100. The DAC in the P5 is very good. The phono pre is good, not great. The P5 analog section is outstanding. You might find the HT bypass on the P5 very useful also. Of course all this IMHO.The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

I will have a mint silver P5 for sale very shortly if you want to pm me.

I have had both... The P5 sounds much more refined but for the $$$ the 2100 is a great value. Get the best you can afford. My New Year's resolution is 3840 × 2160

I have a P5 (black) and a second one (silver) that will be arriving soon from AA for the bedroom. I was also on the fence about getting the 2100, since I am not ashamed to save a few bucks. From various info I read in researching this, the sound quality is not a huge step up with the P5. What made me go with the P5 was the DAC built in and the balanced connectors which the 2100 lacks. Both these features will be used in my bedroom rig. If you don't need these features or already have a DAC, you probably would be fine with the 2100 and could save a few dollars.Living Room

I know very little about audio (or women), I know I love my 705's.
If you like data, stereophile.com has a review of the P5 & measurements that support P5 is great for analog not so much for digital.
I switched to Cambridge 851D as a pre for my 100% iTunes sourced ALAC music, I am pretty sure I hear an improvement. -
Hey Collin,
My understanding is the 851D is a dac, which can be used as pre also. Adding a dedicated pre might offer you more in SQ. I know killing 2 birds with one stone is appealing, especially to the wallet, but if you want to up your game add a pre amp, preferably a tubed one.
The p5 used at around 800 bucks is a good bargain for SS pre's, and older ears.HT SYSTEM-

Well, this thread is now OBE. Bought Brian's P5. I've been using an AVR or Pre/Pro for 2 channel in my combined system for a long time. This, along with the 705's, is going to be a huge upgrade. I'm pumped!!
-
Good for you man, you wont regret buying it, I know I haven't .

I can't wait to hear your impressions of the P5 and I'm glad it stayed in the Polk family. Happy Easter Dave!

My P5 was one of my most intelligent audio purchases I have made, ever. The best way to predict the future is to invent it.
