Directv Genie.

My old directv genie (HR34) was getting slow at times and I called DTV this AM and asked for them to replace it. I called them and got right thru and the rep told me I was entitled to a FREE upgrade to the newest Genie, the HR-54. She said I can have somebody here TODAY and that would also be FREE to have him install and config. the boxes (new Genie and remote client). She said he would be at my home today between 12:10 and 4:00... Sure enough the tech shows up at 12:15 with new boxes in hand. He installs the stuff checks my dish, fixes a loose cable to the dish and even checks the config on my Harmony.... GREAT service...on the other hand when ever I call COMCAST for anything I get transferred at least 4 times and have to repeat my issue every time... They always make me want to break something.

If you have an old Genie, let them know and you can get a free upgrade to the new one. The old one is good, the new one is GREAT... Yes Tony I am a Directv Fanboy!!!

I'm a DirecTV fanboy too. I have the old receivers...non genie. Do you know if you can hook up the genie's on an old style dish like I have at my cottage?

And I agree, their customer service is great.

Dunno about your old dish, but they will put up a new one for you...Mine was done at NO Charge...Give them a call....

lol Mikey, I see nothing wrong with that pal. Kudos to DTV for their service, and your right....you'll never get that from Comcast.

My issues with them stem from location more so than the service itself. Too many tall tree's blocking that southern line of sight to a satellite.....and snow. Problems you Floridians don't have.

Comcast has no clue about what customer service is. They should fire whoever is responsible for their CS program. Absolute Bravo Sierra.

I've had DirecTV for years. Still on my older receiver though. Just a heads up, when they say "free upgrade" it means its free with you resigning your contract for another 2 years. So ya you may not have to pay for it out of pocket, but you are locked in with them.

if it is anything like Dish usually not as each dish has a different gain to it. My old "superdish" I had was a big oval thing (had more gain for local channels) I really wanted to keep it and install my new Hopper to it and the tech said no because it would over drive my Hopper Receiver and it was no longer necessary as they had moved the locals from the different satellite to a newer satellite which also negated the need for higher gain for all channels....make sense?

I've been with DTV since 1995... I'm not going anywhere unless they lose NFL Sunday Ticket. Which isn't happening anytime soon. Ends 2023.

Love DirecTV, had them for about 10yrs now. Everytime I've had a receiver die, my replacement was shipped 2nd day. Never had any issues with them.

I might have to check out DirectTV also. Seems like Comcast just can't quit raising our cable bills 10-20 dollars a year for every frickin' nickel and dime tax,local tv charge, whatever tax , extra charge for extra box or room outlet,etc..yada,yada,yada.

My woman just cut the Comcast cable literally after being a customer for over 37 years.

For over two years, she had an orange 100 foot plus cable running from the street box to the box on her house. She called and called and visit after visit, the cable was never covered or run under her driveway.

Just saw this morning that AT&T (Direct TV) and Samsung will give you a free TV under certain conditions.

I've finally got around to contacting DirecTV. I have a new Genie DVR and 4K Genie coming Thursday for free. Excellent customer service. Thanks for the tip.

Just a few months ago, I convinced DIRECTV to replace my genie (HR34). Worst box I've ever had. That, and the genie-client setup did not suit my needs. I need to be able to sync my TVs on occasion (think football parties) and there's always a lag with the client, which is frustrating when both TVs are on. Plus, operating the slow client connected to a buggy genie was a horrible experience. I hope they've improved with the newer models. I've been a customer for a long time, but it's still no fun to spend an hour on the phone with them... Still, Comcast is my other option, so there's that...

I went with 2 regular DVR boxes (HR24), and couldn't be happier.

Hmmm.....I was switched from the old boxes to the Genies about 4 months ago. My Genies are much slower than the old boxes.....which is annoying **** h e double hockey sticks. What model # are the new versions?

Hello all. I will be honest, I have been a DTV customer for so long, I don't remember when I first signed up. It had to have been well over 20 years ago. So long ago, I have had their phone number memorized by heart for quite some time. As a customer for all of these years, you get to know the company rather well.

Yes, it may be a tad bit more expensive than other providers (depending on your programming choices) but what you get in return is 10 fold what others can provide. I have not one bad thing to say about the company at all. Service has always been top notch, issues solved in minutes or if a new box is needed (only once), a day or two.

Most of the time I call, I get either a discount, upgrade or free programming. For instance, I called while I was typing this and got money off of my monthly bill AND three months of free HBO at zero charge along with no further contract commitments.

The Genie is awesome, I rarely ever run out of recording space on the DVR's and with the new 4K TV, resolution is outstanding. We have not ever had an issue placing a satellite dish in view of the actual satellite and when we lose the signal, no matter what house we are at, that means that a huge storm from the South is in the way. This gives us enough time to unplug everything valuable in the house because every time, without fail, all HELL is about to break loose outside weather wise. This usually only occurs about 3, maybe 4 times a year and only lasts about 5-10 minutes. When I had cable, I got disruptions and digital snow seemingly everyday. Very aggravating.

I rarely give a recommendation but with DTV, I feel that I must. Some things in life you get what you pay for. When it comes to TV programming and service, this is one of them. I have nothing but praise for this company......a rarity these days.

Nice comments Tom.... I feel the same way... Their US based Customer Service is the best CS experience i can think of...Right up there with Polk CS. Been with them since '94 and they have only gotten better. hopefully ATT doesn't screw them up.

I haven't noticed anything change since the merger. Still need to figure out how to get DTV on the phone (I have AT&T as well). Too busy at the moment to figure all of that out. Keep your fingers crossed that this merger does not end up like Nextel and Sprint's merger. That was a disaster and I haven't been a customer ever since.

Dude, that's Phat! My new phone has the capability of hooking up to a monitor or TV.....so "in theory", I'll be able to have DTV wherever I am. Too cool!

I thought it was a free service though.....??? Am I incorrect on this assumption?

So the slingbox is a device...that connects to your dtv receiver or client and the sling player is free.... users your internet connection

Been with DTV since 2002, Just bought a 4K Vizio P50 to replace a failing Samsung 40" 720P TV. HR54 will be installed tomorrow, currently have a HR44 and getting a new mini for the 4K TV.

Like others I hope AT&T dont screw them up.

AT&T has been courting me hard to leave VzW and go to them but I am not there yet.

Customer retention is the best at DTV, call every 6-12 months and they drop my bill $30 - $40 a month.

Install went great, I was not expecting 4K to be that big of deal but the picture is amazing. I did not buy the TV for 4K but I am glad I did.

For the first time it has me thinking of upgrading my 3 year old Panasonic Plasma.

Got the HR-54 and 4K mini Genie. Both are extremely fast. Picture quality is very good and 4K looks awesome. Can't wait to see sports in 4K. I haven't had a chance to play around with them too much but so far so good. One of the best customer service out there and the upgrade was free.

That's what I keep sayin' man. Don't buy a 4k tv for 4k alone, buy it for the improved pic quality on regular 1080p pictures. Congrats, glad your diggin' it.

I have been with directv since day one. Paid 700.00 for the dish and receiver at incredible universe. anybody remember that place. wow . Now i might have to call to upgrade the genie. Mine is hr34.
