Here is a weird thing that happened to me through the ebay global shipping program

I sold a bunch of speakers to some guy in Mexico and he paid promptly without a problem. He ordered through ebays global shipping program so all I have to do is ship to them to the global shipping center. Well today I get this email.." ITEM STOPPED AT CUSTOMS
Dear Kevin,

We are writing to inform you that your recent GSP transaction to ****arezs cannot be completed.

The item was unable to be delivered to its final destination due to a customs clearance issue.
No further action is needed at this time. We’ve let your buyer know why the item couldn’t be delivered.

Under the terms of the Global Shipping Program your buyer will be refunded automatically, and you are entitled to keep the proceeds from the transaction."

Well now I know that ebay has given the guy the money back and that I dont have to pay back a dime. My question is... What happens to the speakers? Do they sit in limbo or will they be sent back to mem thus giving me all the money and the speakers?

When ebay mentions that they never cleared customs..... that could mean they got stolen?

You're the unluckiest shipper/recipient I've noticed on this site. Might want to look into voodoo.

oh yes, you said that. Sorry, don't ship international.
What I can't figure is how shipping to Mexico is international anymore...

Most likely were held due to a CITES violation. That is the rare wood treaty that has plagued guitar makers for the past 10 years or so. I sold a Canadian made guitar to a buyer in Canada and they took it due to the ebony fret board.

Obscure treaty signed in 1926 that our government has flaunted at will recently. It is the same law that has a number of musicians getting their instruments taken from them at airports upon landing unless they declare them properly.

Your speakers will be held as evidence of the violation until enough time has past and they will be subject to government auction.

You'll never hear of them again......it kind of makes you wonder if they would have done the same thing for $100k item.

Haven't they stepped up that law due to deforestation of rare and exotic woods ? Isn't that what drove I forget which, guitar maker out of business......or close to it ?

Yep, it started with good intentions, but you can't control corruption when market pressures for fancy woods are making those in power wealthy by overlooking a world wide treaty.

Gibson's raid a few years back was over this type of issue. They had legal woods, but lacked the paperwork to prove that it was legal. Nearly put them under.

I'd get ahold of the manufacturer to see if that ever happened to them. Seems they may have attempted sales of their product to consumers in Mexico. If not, contact your local US congressman and see where they can stear you. Sounds pretty whacky when its a ubiquitous commercial item.
