KLH-331 in HoCo MD

Thought I'd give a heads up on a GW find in Howard Co MD.

The store on Snowden River Pkwy has 2 pairs in very nice exterior condition including original boxes. They looked like they were marked $100 for all 4 or $60 for 2.

They also had a Technics SA-200 for $25.

I am trying to be good and not bring any more stuff into the house, so have at 'em.

SA-200 should :-P look like this:

This is an SA-202, but it's similar if a little more "modern" in cosmetics, with LEDs instead of an analog tuning meter.

Silver face and wood-esque pieces on the outside (typical of Technics ca. 1978, give or take).

EDIT: Oh, as an aside -- Panasonic made those ol' Technics components harder and weirder than average to get into; always sort of a pet peeve of mine. They were, by and large, also a little cheezier in construction values than the other 'big name' Japanese massmarket brands. In fact, Pioneer actually took advantage of that in a 1970s print ad that contrasted the physical robustness of one of their receivers compared to a Technics of around the same place in their respective model line-ups.

That line of KLH speakers are sort of sleepers, in my estimation (and FWIW) -- they post-date the "classic" KLH designs, but they're very respectable. Some of them used the Peerless silk dome; not sure about the 331, though.

EDIT: Nope, not that one -- more like the KLH 345 ("Little Baron") and its kin. The 331 is more like the classic KLH two-ways, with a cone tweeter. Henry liked cones.

"HoCo", eh :- ) Never heard that sobriquet, but I haven't lived in MD for a long, long time now. I grew up in AA Co, not far at all from one corner of HoCo... down by the airport (hon).

Mark, there is an SA-200K that has a black faceplate with silver knobs. Looks fantastic, but wasn'the imported to the US.

Don't doubt it, though I don't recall ever seeing one.
The ROW got a fair amount of 'blackface' (anodized black aluminum front panel) equipment in those days; most of it was quite striking.

Indeed, I wouldn't mind stumbling across, eg., a Yamaha CR-66 sometime (or a CT-7000 in black).

There were these Sansuis sold in the US that were kind of neither fish nor fowl. Aesthetics 'borrowed' directly from the AU-717/TU-717, but kind of second-rate circuitry under the hood.

I'll help you drift, Mark. Every time you post a pic of that TA-500, it makes me think about getting *mine* out of the closet. I love its aesthetics, but don't exactly have a use for it...

    ditto.
It did sound pretty good, though, hooked to a pair of (don't laugh!) Radio Shack "Mach Two" speakers!
The speakers are long gone; receiver's still here in the basement someplace.
