SVS selling thru B&M shops now?

I just got an email from my local stereo store here in Cherry Hill, NJ. I'm invited to an open house on 3/24, to come out & have a listen to SVS subs. The owner & staff will all be there to demo their subs. A lot of door prizes, adult beverages & food. I just might have to mozy on over there.

I was surprised because I thought SVS was strictly internet based...I guess they want to expand their market. Not a bad idea.

I'll have to check out my local Magnolia to see what subs they actually carry, I can't see them handling the top tier subs due to the expensive. They have to sell to their market base.

You'd be surprised. Even sears carry SVS speakers/subs in their website.

They have the ultras where I'm at.

They are selling 22,000$ BW 802d3. I think they can sell 2,000 subs

Maybe at your Magnolia but certainly not at mine. Definitely two different market segments. Now at the stereo shop holding the SVS demo event that's a whole different market. Big ticket items are certainly the norm. Full B&W line being just one of them.

Good for SVS. Polk should do this with the LSiM line.

There are two types of magnolia. There's the design center and the non.

You probably have the non. But if you look around, you'll find a design center and the svs.

The Magnolia near me not only doesn't have SVS, most of the people who work there don't even know what they are. They sometimes get a few ML subs in the listening room, but that's about it.

They do, however, have some pretty cool open box items, but only if you're timing is good.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

    That's unfortunate

Now that you mention it there was a design center not too far from me but it closed in about 6 months. I had forgotten all about it. I won't be seeing any SVS subs at my local Magnolia any time soon.

The Best Buy nearest me has the high end gear, but I usually see don't see many people looking in that section. They have a McIntosh tube amp and Martin Logan speakers setup in the entrance way with a Sony HAPZ1ES media player as the source, and go up in price to B&W speakers in the $15k a pair range. As is normal with Best Buy there are kids advising and trying to make an effort at selling the gear. The kids are nice and enthusiastic about the equipment, but it is obvious they don't have much experience with what is around them. There is a manager around though who knows his stuff. They have access to the full range of what one would expect for a high end home theater store including furniture, projectors, amps, Audioquest cabling, and several brands of speakers.

I've been bugging my local B&M shops to carry svs for a while now. Most of them haven't heard of svs and kind of turn their nose up at it. Probably not "high end" enough for them.

I wasn't aware they were in any retail outlets. Last fall I had a Klipsch sub death and I ended up buying a PB-1000 online, just based on reviews. I'm pleased with it. However, as was stated on one of the other threads I was just reading, once your music starts sounding so good, movies are less enticing. So I haven't really gotten much use out of it.
Power Amps: Luxman M-02, Luxman M-2000, Luxman M-300
