DVDA/SACD player (Yamaha DVD-C750), what cables?

For no reason I bought a Yamaha DVD-C750 SACD/DVD-A player without remote. He is moving and he lost the cables and remote for it. But for $50, I said why not.
He has a second piece he said he will sell for $50 (no remote), before the move. I can purchase it and just pass it on here for the same price. Is it even a good price?

I don't even have any SACD or DVDA discs. So, time to start looking for them and the remote. For some reason my universal remote is not able to find the codes for this player.

Now, how do I connect this player to my AVR?

All of my devices (except for Wii) are HDMI. This Yamaha doesnt have HDMI out.
Should I get Y Pb R, Normal RCA, digital Coaxial cable or SPDIF optical?

Does your AVR have component ins? If so connect the video using the Y, Pb, R outputs from the Yamaha. In order to play multi-channel SACDs you may have to use the Multi-channel analog OUTS from the Yamaha to the multi-ins on the AVR-IF the AVR has such inputs. If not, the Yamaha will output both a COAX digital signal and an Analog R/L channel signal without having to tell it. So you need to hook up the COAX to the AVR for DVDs, and then decide on which has the better DACs, the Yamaha or the AVR. With one proviso SACD output will NOT pass through the COAX or Toslink as SACD, it "may" pass through the two channel analog R/L outs (need to view the manual to see how the Yammie processes DSD).

My guess is that you should probably wire both COAX and Analog and use analog when playing SACD!

For SACD/DVD-A you need to hook up the Yamaha multi-channel analog outs to the multi-channel ins on your AVR IF YOU HAVE THOSE. If not hook up the L/R analogs AND the COAX. Use the analog when playing SACDs and the COAX when playing DVD movies. Not sure about the DVD-Audio discs?

If your AVR has component ins you could hook the RGB outs on the Yammie to those, otherwise straight to the TV, and the AVR will probably upscale that via HDMI out?

    Thanks cnh.
Yes, fortunately I have one of those old school/mid school AVR (yamaha rx-v667) which has every input including HDMI and full 7 channel preouts. Never going to give up on this AVR till I go ATMOS. :)

I will go and buy some Y, Pb, Pr for video and 7 normal RCAs for full analog audio feed to my AVR. I do have extra SPDIF optical cable, so I will use that too and see how it does.
Only if I could find way to use my universal remote with the yamaha. Will need to some digging on it.

    PS:
Just normal red/white RCA cables will do for the full 6 channel analog in/out, correct?
I never understood the difference between interconnects and composite cables. lol.

Yeah! Multi-channel ins take standard analog audio cables. You'll be fine.

Those red & white audio cables will work, but sure aren't going to sound as good as you might expect. That's about as bottom barrel as you can get.

Call Frank at Signal cable, or Bluejeans for cheap decent IC's. Pretty much anything will be better than those old red and whites.

I thought so too. I just didn't know if the 6 channel were normal RCA kind or had to be something else. I don't even have SACDs to test the sound. For now to test, I connected the analog 6 channel out with some decently thick RCAs I have laying around (they are probably mono price premiums). I ran a DVD and did get multichannel sound. I will get some decent ones soon. I am happy with my blue jeans speaker cables so probably I will go with blue jeans. I don't have such hifi gear to warrant the more expensive cables. Probably the blue jeans cables will be more expensive than this player, haha. But I will get them soon. Once I get some SACDs. :)

Oh, also whats the physical difference between the interconnects that are used between analog out from a player to preamp and preamp to power amp? Aren't they the same? How about the Y, Pb, Pr cables? Are they physically different in construction?

I am just trying to get my head around the difference between these cables. Some say they are same, some say they are different. I want to order all the cables I need at once and want to know the difference before I purchase the wrong one. My current cables I am using are probably 10 foot long and every thing is coiled up sitting on the top of the player. haha

    Thanks.

There is no difference between an IC connecting components. Differences in quality, materials used, design, and sound quality as you move up the chain though.

The Y-PB PR cables can be used for audio but are not of great quality. They were mostly used for video back when that was the only connection available,

You want RCA ended cables. Signal analog 2's, Bluejeans lc-1's if I'm not mistaken on the numbers. Basic rca interconnect cables, and just make sure you have the correct lengths before ordering. Audioquest has a basic line too that is decent as well as MIT or many other brands like Morrow, literally a hundred or so to choose from.

Got it. Thanks for clearing my doubts on interconnects between player and Pre/Pro and Pre/Pro to power amps. Its good to hear that both are same. I will order 6 channel 2 feet LC-1s from blue jeans cables soon.

As for Y Pb Pr, I will just use what I have because thats the only supposedly HD connection from this player. I will need video to get into settings and all.
