Question For Oppo Owners

Regarding the speaker setup menu in the Oppo itself. Why would I configure things such as crossover point, small/large, distance, and trim in the Oppo if it's also going through an AVR which does this? I'm confused in this regard. Can I not shut this off and have it output a straight unadulterated signal so the AVR can take care of it? Should I zero out all of these settings in the AVR? Do these settings in the Oppo have any affect on the analog outs? I am running both 2 channel analog outs straight to my 2 channel preamp as well as HDMI to my AVR.

  • The AVR will take care of this.Especially if you have room correction software like Audyssey.

I don't think you are understanding my dilemma/question.

If you are using an HDMI output to the AVR,then the Oppo does not need to do any of the requisite speaker distance, size and crossover frequency work. That will be handled by the AVR.
Only when you are running all analog channels out to a receiver (*usually an older one that isn't capable of decoding Dolby Digital or DTS formats*) or running the Oppo directly to a multichannel amp does it need to handle all of that.

So those settings have no affect on the HDMI out signal, only the analog outs?

I was playing music off my external hard drive just fine 2 hours ago. Shut off the Oppo for a bit, turned it back on and now it doesn't "see" my hard drive anymore. Works fine in my laptop. Tried unplugging, replugging, shutting the oppo back off/on, nothing. My USB stick works fine still.

    Strange.

Might just be setup issues. I only use my oppo for movies.

Figured it out. I found out that my hard drive, which is powered by the USB port and not a wall wart, only worked on my laptops USB 3.0 port. Plug it into the USB 2.0 port and nothing. This was while using a USB 3.0 cable exactly like this:

I swapped it for a USB 2.0 cable like this one

and it works in a 2.0 port now. Plugged it back into the Oppo again and it came right up.

Reason? I have no idea, anybody know?

Weird... I had this similar situation with my MacBook Pro hooked up to my 105 through the USB DAC input, I had to unplug then plug back in the USB, then select oppo DAC on my MacBook. It did this every time I turned it off, and was a major pita when I used this as a back up pre amp.

I moved it back upstairs into the theater and this never happens up there??? I'm cursed.. And I get zapped by the computer every time I touch it lol.
