How to charge a new Cap. (1st time)

I'm going to charge my cap in my system. I reed somewhere it is a procedure to charge it with a resistor at the fist time.
Have some body experience doing this task?
What type and what value in ohms is the resistor?
It is a 3 farad capacitor.

    it should have came with a little charging card...you hook it up to a battery charger...

    Or if it didn't come with a card like mine, you take a fuse tester light or even a night light bulb with the two wires sticking out the bottom and ground the cap, put one end on the power wire coming in, one end on the cap, and it will light up... hold it there till the light goes out and the cap is charged, hook up the power wire... you're good to go!
