Lesson learned during upgradeof 3.1TL

Several lessons were learned during my upgrade which I will share, 1) don't assume all the bracing in the cabinets are tight - found several that needed adhesive and one that was cut too short and was just laying between the batting. Fixed by shimming. 2) If doing 8/32 Hurricane nuts don't just drill out the holes all at once - use steps by following the original screw holes with a 1/8 drill bit then a 5/32 bit and finally a 13/64 but be sure to keep drill square to the material and let the weight of the drill provide the pressure, go slow, this avoids the bit from breaking thru, remove any burrs or other material to make sure the nut sits flush, draw the nut up by using hand power to avoid spinning. This advise is courtesy of Westmassguy and he was correct. if you must, use epoxy sparingly at the flange end, but I didn't need it as none of them spun. 3) Definitely seal the cabinet at all connecting joints - found a lot of suspect joints and sealed them. 4) Don't overdo the sound barrier thing - sometimes less is more.

I'll give you a very big oh yeah when doing a mod. I was doing most of the physical mods myself and the Dynamating made a lot of sense and worked. Then comes Black hole-5. This sh$t works as advertised. I did the 3'' strips from the top of the cabinet down to the line of of the mid-woofers and man I was shocked. It deadened the space so much I was ready to rip it out. I did get used to it and the stuff stayed. Mine were on 2Bs. Bracing was not a problem but I used liquid Nails on the seams. I went w/ Larry' Rings but drilling straight here was a must for the threaded nipples to fit right.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E
