An addition to my Mc-family

Our family room system is composed of Rotel gear and B&W speakers. I had an issue with my Rotel preamp on Friday and took it to my dealer in Houston on Saturday to diagnose. The problem was the two internal fuses were blown but he only had one in stock and would take a few days to get one in. He then preceded to offer me a trade-up opportunity so I traded my RC1550 pre for a Rotel RC1590 pre which had gotten rave reviews - this is Rotel's newest 2-ch preamp. The amp I have in this room is a Rotel RB1582 MkII. When I got home (I live 45 miles from my dealer) Maria proceeded to read me the Riot Act for not bringing home a McIntosh product since we have the brand in our listening room upstairs. I have always told her the family room system was hers if anything happened between us. In her words.."...if this system is mine then I want McIntosh, too, nothing else." Not looking a gift horse in the mouth I immediately called my dealer and asked if they would also take the RB1582 in on trade which they would. I came home with a MAC6700 receiver (a MA6700 with a TM3 tuner). The MAC6700 was $500 cheaper than the MA7900. I suppose it was cheaper due to no onboard DAC and graphic equalizer. The unit is a beefy 76 lbs and looks great. I am not a 'tuner' user but Maria enjoys listening to the local Classic Rock station every now and then. Anyway, here are some photos of the unit. y59fovq4k03t.jpg

Nice. Does this mean you get to buy yourself a new toy?
  • Nice looking piece. Congrats!
Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant

No sisters, but two eligible brothers. This is my secondary system (or her main system) that gets 90% of the music action since it is on the main floor.

Do her brothers look feminine in the dark?

Must be nice to have a supportive wife. Mine just tells me "no".

It's the 21st Century, remember? "not that there's anything wrong with that!"

My original post is incorrect - the MAC6700 does have an onboard DAC.

Uggghhh - this does not have the TM2 tuner in it (received HD radio), it has the TM3 which was designed for export models. McIntosh tells me there are no more TM2 tuner modules available and none to be made. I am a bit at odds now what to do. AudioClassics has them for $800 but will not discount with my TM3 trade-in. My dealer even thought it still had the HD tuner in it, that is how it was pitched to me before buying. My reception is not that good where I live even with a Terk indoor antenna. I really enjoy the HD radio in my wife's car.

Did your dealer lead you to believe it had it to begin with?
