Karen Spellman resident in the central New South Wales town of Dubbo sweeps up some of the thousands of locusts that have invaded the town in recent days, Tuesday, March 16, 2004. The Australian Plague Locust Commission has sprayed more than 200,000 hectares (494,000 acres) of land in northwest New South Wales and southern Queensland, in an effort to control the breeding, with some farmers losing up to 80 percent of their crops to airborne pests.
