Adding a power amplifier to HT ?

Thinking of adding a amplifier to HT receiver. Got a ? Im use to separates & to shut it off sequence. When i hook a amplifier up do i just leave the amp button on ? & let the receiver do all the work ? I had one hooked up a few years ago & i got up & hit the switch every time PIA but back then i wasnt really into movies. Also would this be a problem if i used this all the time-even when watching regular tv. I have 2 amps to choose from & they are old ones with manual on/off buttons. Adcom gfa555 & Denon POA2200. So it would have alot of use. Any help would be appreciated. TIA

If it were me I'd used both amps 555 in front denon on rears and get a separate processor like a B&K 70 or the like and end up with a killer HT and 2 channel system. I have done this with parasound amps and the results were fantastic.
    Main Rig:
Krell KAV 250a biamped to mid/highs
    Parasound HCA1500A biamped to lows
    Nakamichi EC100 Active xover
    MIT exp 1 ic's
    Perreaux SA33 class A preamp
    AQ kingcobra ic's
    OPPO 83 CDP
Lehmann audio black cube SE phono pre, Audioquest phono wire (ITA1/1)
Denon DP-1200 TT. AToc9ML MC cart.
    Monster HTS 3600 power conditioner
    ADS L1590/2 Biamped
    MIT exps2 speaker cable

My plan is to use the 1c's on fronts & a center channel speaker & no rears (or add Monitors). I have no problem getting a 3/5 channel amplifier but the 2 listed above are spares. I could use the money on buying a decent center speaker. Got too much stuff & gotta clean house. Thank for ideas

no you would still shut off amp DO NOT plug amp into switched outlets on receiver.
or you could leave it on all the time I like to shut mine down when I'm not home.

So would leaving it on all the time be a issue ? Shut off just receiver ? Or do i need new amplifier & receiver. I see others add amplifiers-wonder how do they do it

the pre-outs on the receiver as long as you have them(pre-outs) no need for new on either

I leave my amp on 24/7, it's been fine. If I'm going to be away from home overnight and longer I shut it off.

I have and still do leave my 5ch Rotel on all the time. Unless I'm going on vacation or moving gear around or unplugging my speakers, the rest of the time it stays on.

I use an old sequence of turning the preamp or AVR on first, then turning the power amps on one at a time with about 5 seconds between them. I reverse this when turning system off. Power amps off first, then preamp or AVR off. I always_____ unplug everything from the wall socket, can't trust Texas thunderstorms.

Leaving the amp on all the time will be just fine.

Whats to wonder, hit the power switch when you want to watch a movie. Is turning on a light switch too a lot of work ? Same process, no ?

No. If im not home & wife & daughter are there. They would rather use the tv remote & the receiver remote (2 remotes) to turn on tv. Im not sure wife would be to impressed having to turn them 2 on & then have to hit a button each time she wants to watch tv &or shut it off

You use the HT for just watching regular TV ? If so, then just leave it on all the time. Problem solved and it won't hurt anything. I only use it for movie watching and maybe a certain TV series here or there. No need to hear the news in surround sound or when the wife watches Housewives of whatever city.

If i use 1c for fronts w/amplifier hooked to them & a decent center channel speaker w/subwoofer in center speaker. That would free up some space. I can add rears later to match the fronts....

Tony not sure i understand- would you just listen to center channel that way ? If the amplifier doesnt go on there wouldnt be any sound out of speakers. I could do just that. Use amp for music & movies. Use just center speaker for wifes soap operas-news. Not sure how that would sounf

No pal, what I mean is I personally don't use it at all for regular TV viewing, just the speakers in the tv are on, not the HT.
I may flip it on from time to time if there is something worthy on cable, but normally I leave it off for regular tv viewing.

If your HT receiver has a 12v trigger, you could purchase a power conditioner that has a 12v trigger sequence to remotely power on the amps. I am using a Panamax power conditioner that has a 12v trigger. It can sequence a delay start/off for my amps just with the use of my current SSP or my previous HT receiver. That way you do not have to get out of your favorite chair to listen to your HT or 2 channel recording.

I know, todays tv speakers suck. Try adjusting the audio settings in the TV's menu to hopefully make it a tad better if you go that route. Otherwise, the 12v triggers should work for you.
