Yamaha comparison questions

Ok im not good with HT receiver specs or what one does & the other one doesnt. I have the Yamaha rxv-1500 & its hooked up.. Got the tv hooked up via optical & a cd player (no hdmi) .. Here is the question .. I picked up a Yamaha rxv-2600 cheap & it has HDMI. It may have alot of other options i may not know about. Im not good with comparing. Would you think the 2600 is better ? Only 10wpc more-so that shouldnt matter. If your familiar with Yamaha's please chime in. Oh i am also using a b-ray player hdmi straight to tv. Its a cheesy one & i only own maybe 3 b-ray disc. Any suggestions are appreciated

Well at least now you can let the receiver do the decoding and get all the good sound.
I think it is a step up because of the HDMI.

I looked up the manuals for those two units. Yes, the 2600 has a couple of HDMI ins on the back but they are HDMI 1.1, one of the earlier implementations of that standard. And, I believe, that they DO NOT process the newer HD master audio formats, in which case it's not worth the switch. However they will pass LPCM which means that if you have a Blu-ray player that can take that LPCM and turn it into Dolby Tru HD or DTS HD audio that would be an IMPROVEMENT in your surround sound when you use B-ray discs.

I believe the first HDMI AVRs to have true HD decoding were the HDMI 1.3 (version). My Onkyo TX-SR805 has those and it was a big deal then! The 605 Onkyo was the very first AVR to implement those, I think? OK, so yes, HDMI 1.1 will NOT process HD audio!

So, don't worry about unhooking everything. And as far as power draw, BOTH AVRs draw 500 watts IN! So no real advantage there. The 2600 is, though, four pounds heavier?

HDMI history? God forbid we "remember" that when we're already past HDMI 2.0? We're Americans after all. Daxn History and full speed ahead! Where's that Asimov story about the guy who could do arithmetic without a "calculator"?

Thanks Cnh. I looked both manuals over also. But didnt see too much that to me would be drastic improvement. I gotta move some gear around & decide as i go. Overall i am pleased with the Yamaha's on a budget. Thanks again

good point I hadn't thought of that. Heck I just bought my first "used" BR player from enders a year or so ago as it had 5.1 outs and Component video to go into my Denon 3805 and just moved up to RX-V1900 maybe 3 wks ago.
