Home Automation discussion

So later this week I am getting a Nest Thermostat and 2 Z-Wave outlet's so we can turn 2 devices on and off via our phones remotely.

Here is my question:

I know devices like the Z-Wave and Belkin Webmo stuff exist, but those all rely on items to be plugged into an outlet...

Whats out there that works well for having the same control over lighting thats wired to a switch, such as lights on a ceiling fan, overhead lights, etc.

I'm also looking for a good keyless entry lock for my front door. I'd love something that you can reprogram fairly easy, if you could have it connected so you can unlock the door via your phone remotely that would be great too....

I'm also curious what folks are using to control these different devices.

I'm looking to start moving my house toward a more connected one and I know some of this stuff is still the Wild Wild West.

What I'm mainly looking for is the ability to use IFTT commands to these devices so I can do stuff like...

When the garage door triggers, turn on the lights in room X, Y, Z, knock up the thermostat to X temp, etc.

I'd love a discussion on what devices people are using, what they cost, what the pro's and cons are of them, etc.

This also applies to security systems. I'm wanting to connect up a couple camera's to cover the front/garage and backdoor and maybe run one out to my shed so I can see the entire back of the house. Would like the ability to check them via my phone potentially, as well as store the footage on a harddrive(s) onsite.....

As far as the wired light portion, I think (only because I haven't looked that far into it) you'd have to use the wireless light bulbs versus a plug. That'll give you the wireless control as well as the switch.

For lights looks at Lutron. If your an average guy and not a billionaire go with Lutron Casetta. It plays nice with Nest now.

If you wait a few more weeks Savant is releasing a $500 control system. There will be no equal for that price.

Will it control inwall lights? I'm talking about the hardwired to a switch stuff. We can find more of the wall jack plugs that you can control with the phone, but I'm talking about the ceiling fans with lights, closet lights, etc....
