PSW350 doesn't auto off?

I just bought and installed a PSW350 yesterday for my home theater system. I have the power switch set to automatic so that the amplifier inside the
unit would turn off autimatically when my system is turned off. I used option #2 connecting the subwoofer out line on my receiver to the LFE input
on the PSW350.
This morning, after my system had been off for about 8 hours, I could hear a low 60Hz hum coming from the PSW350's speaker when I put my ear right up to it. This hum stopped when I shut off the surge protector that I have the
unit plugged into.
Why didn't my unit turn itself off by itself like it is supposed to? Is that 60Hz hum creating enough of a signal to keep the unit turned on? I will try re-routing the RCA cord that goes into the LFE input but my options are limited. Is there a recommended cable that I should be using? Right now I'm using a standard audio/video type RCA cable and I don't know if it's shielded
or not. Would sheilding help?
Could there be something wrong with my new unit? Thanks.

I would try a shielded subwoofer cable, that could be the problem.

sounds like it might be a bad cable

I would go sheilded too.. buy a cable designed for subwoofers... I bought one sheilded for about $40, it's 6 meters long.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Well, sorry to post a reply to my own post but I have an update. I discovered the reason that my SW didn't power down was because the selector switch was in the wrong position. I didn't realize it was a 3 position switch, the center position being the auto on/off one I think - the instructions aren't clear on this. With the switch in the center position the power LED glows gree when a signal is present, and turns red after a few minutes with no signal. I think this is the correct behavior.
I also took everyone's advice (thanks!) and ran a super duper "Gold Series" shielded audio cable between my receiver and the LFE input on the SW. I swear it sounds better when playing music now but I can still hear a low hum with my ear right in front of the driver after the auto off fuction presumably kicks in and the rear panel LED has turned red. If I flip the switch into the "off" position the hum stops even as the LED remains lit red. Is this normal? Thanks,

maybe try a diff outlet. you might be getting some wierd feed back from your power source ??
turn the sub volume down thru the rcvr if you have that turned up ??
