Toe in or out?

It is really hard to move my mains by myself to aim them. What do yall think about trying to stick some felt sliders under the dicks that my spikes sit on? I am still **** with placement and at 100 pounds per speaker it is a chore to move them around. If they slide around easily then I can maybe move them around but wouldn't felt kind of defeat the purpose (couple/Decouple)?

So, put the slides on until you dial in the location, then remove them. Simple.

Could you not also use some painters tape and tape some cheap laser pointers on the top centre of each speaker and have the beams match up in your listening chair/location along with the slides on the bottoms?
  • You are too worried about the decouple effect. Right now put what ever you need under them to move them easier around until you get the perfect spot. Lasers on top really help with locating them. I have used furniture slider before and also moving dollies to place my speakers. Once you get your perfect location mark the speaker and get them of the device onto your spikes. Done.

    1) Prudent & succinct. Must be a yankee ;- )

    2) 100 lbs per speaker isn't heavy -- sorry

I mentioned this in your other thread about spike shoes. Put some felt on the bottom of the shoes and then they slide easy. I picked up some nice and thin stuff rated for heavy loads. Works nice when you need to dial them in. I used green tape on the floor to mark the optimal spot in my room because I spent a month getting it just right.

This may be completely irrelevant/useless -- but, on hard floors, my longstanding "solution" is to put a big/heavy loudspeaker onto an upside-down piece of carpet remnant (e.g., about the size & shape of a welcome mat). The carpet side slides nicely, and safely, across the floor surface, and the back side of the carpet has enough friction to stay associated with the speaker. One may then just slide the speaker around a bit (or even a lot) with no damage to floor nor speaker (as long as the floor's reasonably clean, of course).

Are you working with a flat wall or a corner behind your speakers?

Not sure how well that would work Mr. H given he uses spikes, and spikes go through the carpet.

Nothing wrong with the felt....whatever works for you, don't over think it just do it.

Just being Lazy I guess. Tilting these things with one hand and trying to guide things under the spikes with the other hand is a hard and kind of dangerous. I was hoping it would be ok to leave the sliders in place. thanks for the tips with the laser that never occurred to me.
