Specifically targeting licorice pizzas, I think my choices (off the top of my head) would be:

* Little Feat "Waiting for Columbus" (MoFi)
* The Who "Who's Next"
* Beatles "Abbey Road" (MoFi)
* Beatles "Revolver"
* Beatles "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"

* Steely Dan "Can't Buy a Thrill"
* Rolling Stones "Let it Bleed"
* Elton John "Tumbleweed Connection"

Sorry it's a pretty uninspiring/uninspired list -- some of the stuff I really like today wasn't/isn't available on the large black vinyl discs, AFAIK.

I forgot Led Zeppelin 1

Roy Buchanan - Second Album has to go up there also. Lol.

Not from my perspective, no.
"Wish You Were Here", maybe. That's the only Pink Floyd album I really ever play any more.

Heh, I figured I could get a rise outta youse mugs attacking one of the shibboleths ;- )
I liked Dark Side a lot for a long time -- I still admire it, but I basically never feel like actually listening to it any more. Played to death.
That said, I am far more likely to listen to "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" now than I ever was in the 'seventies. Not really sure why; maybe I just feel more sympathy and perhaps even empathy for Syd's sad demise.
EDIT: On the other hand, I've loved the Dead's third studio album, aoxomoxoa, since the first time I heard it. Listened to most of it tonight, in fact. In the seventies, I'd skip "What's Become of the Baby?" because it was just too weird. It still is (too weird); but nowadays I can actually tolerate it all the way through. If nothing else, it is interesting... and the original version, as found on the original 1969 mix of aoxomoxoa, is REALLY interesting. That (and the lyrics, which are an interesting riff on the Christ/Christmas story) gave me an appreciation, albeit it late in the game, for this truly bizarre track.

Crosby, Stills & Nash – Crosby, Stills & Nash
Dire Straits – Brothers In Arms
Led Zeppelin – Led Zeppelin IV

I have periods where I will play Knopfler's solo stuff exclusively and go through various albums and discover his music has extremely depth and subtlety. Kind of like Dylan. I wish there were more on SACD, I picked up a SACD copy of Shangri-La for less than $5 and it was the best investment in music I've made in a long time. Some Dire Straits the same thing, only I've heard that so much more over time, but the first album still holds up especially. I just watched a live Dire Strait concert blu-ray recently and was amazed at how much energy those guys had.
-
Looking back through these posts, I would concur heartily with Norah Jones Come Away With Me, Tom Petty Wildflowers, Pearl Jam Ten (which renewed my faith in the youth of today), and C,S &N, but I'd add Y with Deja Vu.

I really like their first (eponymous) album -- it was a profound breath of fresh air in the disco, arena-rock dinosaur and punk-encrusted late 1970s "pop/rock" music landscape.
Great, atmospheric - even cinematic - stuff. Listen to "Down to the Waterline" and "Walking in the Wild West End"; the images evoked by the lyrics are palpable.
Oh, and you have my permission to skip "Sultans of Swing" -- speaking of being played to death :-P

Rod Stewart – Every Picture Tells A Story
Cheap Trick - Dream Police
David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars

Peter Gabriel - So

Sinéad O'Connor – I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got -
I didn't feel qualified to post to this thread at first because I don't have enough LPs yet to have 10 "favorite" ones, and I missed the part in D's OP saying it also pertains to CDs. I'm gonna try to keep my list to LP's since I've been getting into the vinyl here lately, and this is what I've been listening to mostly so far.
Great lists above! Giving me some ideas for albums on vinyl!
Spiritualized - Lazer Guided Melodies
Mazzy Star - Among My Swan
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Dean & Britta - L'Avventura
Def Leppard - Hysteria
The Verve - A Storm In Heaven
Chris Isaak - Forever Blue
The War on Drugs - Lost In The Dream
The Head and The Heart - Let's Be Still
Smashing Pumpkins - Gish
Fave lists are difficult!
Indeed, DSOTM will be in the collection at some point. And, speaking to the other notes about Pink Floyd - my first PF cd was The Delicate Sound of Thunder, so my intro other older Pink Floyd was that live album. Before this, all I ever heard from PF was Learning to Fly from that cool video on MTV in the late 80s. I remember trying to squeeze in as much MTV time as I could back in those days while getting ready for school! Later, I swiped a scratchy old DSOTM from my brother and can remember really enjoying it one winter evening as the sun was going down, finishing in darkness.I disabled signatures. -
Specifically LPs or just top 10 albums? I really like Tool "Lateralus" but the LP is a noisy picture disc and I wouldn't put it on my list then.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.
