4k tv's

We likely all know about most of the 4k units from all of the usual suspects but the decisions are getting difficult. The LG OLED units have the best picture by a wide margin but way, way too expensive. Sammy and Sony had a joint venture on development of OLED but pulled the plug and elected to just continue to pump up existing tech. The 9000 series sammys look very good, don't know about the Sony units.
There is another manufacture producing better than average 4k units, Hisence. A Chinese company and on paper they look like the new best thing but I am having a hard time finding one locally and haven't read much on them either. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON HISENCE ULED TV'S? Amazon is the only one selling them that I know of.

Don't know where you are located but in Canada you can find them anywhere that shouldn't be selling tvs. Like Canadian Tire...

Honestly, I am going to, to the dismay of others, toot the Vizio horn yet again.
For the money, I don't think you can really do much better in a 4k set.

Besides, they're the only manufacturer offering a 120" 4k set...and honestly, who isn't going to jump all over that at $180k US! ;)

At $3800 The Samsung UN75JU6500 (75" 4K Smart TV) is a great deal. If you don't want 3D, don't need enhanced audio than you can easily "live" with this set. I don't know if the difference in the picture from 6000 to 9000 series is so great to justify almost double the price IMHO.

I have a Hisense 55" 4K LED and had one of their tablets. The build quality seems to be very good. I cannot say what the ULED is like but can say that the hardware seems solid.
  • Thanks for your input. I had already purchased a 65 inch curved set from amazon and it is a Sammy, kinda wanted a sure thing and I looked at dozens of them all over town. I am still curious about the 65 inch curved Hisence even though it is $500 more than the sammy, hate to order it from amazon and do a comparison and ship one back as it doesn't seem fair. My Sammy is delivered on this Saturday and even though I will not be home from winter vacation for over a month I will have others giving me their 2 cents worth. Again thanks.

At this point in the game, $500 more for the Hisense makes Nosense. They'd have to be pretty amazing to fetch more money than a comparable Samsung.
  • Will someone PLEASE tell me WHY the Koreans are trying to make us believe that curved flat screen sets are better??
They even got the Japanese to jump on the bandwagon, which was unheard of not too long ago. The Koreans were usually copying the Japanese. Now it's the other way around. I love Samsung and LG(*heck I'm tapping this out on an LG phone*)but them curved sets gotta go!!

That's funny. Glad I didn't have a mouthful of coffee.
  • Curved televisions are a bigger gimmick then 3D was. Unless you have a 100+ inch TV, its pointless. Hell with 4k unless you have over an 80 inch screen its pointless. Does it look pretty? Ya. Is it worth an upgrade now? No. Unless you NEED to buy a TV, hold on to the one you have. Not enough content out to warrant any television upgrade. I'll end up getting into the 4k game when projectors get down to a decent price. By then more content will be available. Unless you game on a PC, there really isn't any

Not entirely true pal. Was it worth it going from 480 to 720p, to 1080p ? Would it be worth it to go from 1080p to 2160 ?? Though not 4k, better than 1080, no ? Even on regular 1080 programing or 720p, the upscaling is better on a 4k set.....and no you don't have to sit 5 ft. from the screen to see the difference.

I know the marketing hype is all about 4k, but nobody mentions the 2160 aspect, and there is nothing else to buy or pay extra for.

or at least with your clothes on....
  • Curved is a gimmick. Unless you have a huge screen it actually effects your view negatively unless you sit right in the sweet spot for viewing; it actually cuts your viewing angles down. I'm not saying its not cool, but its not worth the price difference. To each their own for sure, but its just as important as 3D is/was, so take it with a grain of salt. Its just the new flavor of the day to sell TVs to people.

Well every upgrade along the way has been a gimmick to sell TV's

Color TV, maybe we should still have the old Zeneth TV's from back in the day..

Flat Screens were a gimmick, Plasma was a gimmick, LED is a gimmick, TV's larger than 32" are a gimmick, Projectors are a gimmick, and real thin TV's are a gimmick..

Hell surround sound is a gimmick..

It all happens to sell a product yes, but that doesn't mean it's wrong...

And since you don't even own one of these TV's and have Zero experience with one in your home, I think everyone should take your opinion with "a grain of salt"

Yes, everything can be considered a 'gimmick". Only some gimmicks actually have some worth. Which has worth to you and someone else will of course vary. Same applies to audio.

    Larry's a but hole...cranky pants.
I like gimmicks. Got flat screen LED TVs. An espresso machine that requires dual degrees in mechanical engineering and quantum physics.
    No biggie here.
  • Thanks again guys, a lot of chatter on the 4k tv's...I love it all.
Everything is incremental...with everything. Even the car guys give us the new gadgets piece meal so we will keep coming back for the newest. I drive a Jeep Wrangler again and didn't see a need for the navigation so it doesn't have one. My kids got me using my new smart phone for navigation and for some stupid reason I went along with them. I have maps for every state and maybe the entire world but I wanted to be a modern guy and travel light. I'm wintering in Myrtle Beach...first time for me and I thought I would be all right but on the way down I got turned around in Cincinnati and simultaneously lost my GPS signal...no plan B. I can't believe I was so gullible. I spent an extra 2 hours exploring the country side between Ohio and Kentucky, got my GPS signal back and followed my phone right down a 2 track and turned back when I saw the sign...1 lane bridge ahead.
It's hard to navigate and drive, that what wive's are for and I miss mine. I just purchased a Garmin and they really have the incremental technology as the one I selected has voice command, frontal collision warning, lane keep, blue tooth and will interface with your cell phone for hands free operation ( I did get that on my Jeep) and it has a great big screen that I CAN READ WHILE Driving. It also hase some back-up camera which I have not hooked up. As with electronics all the new stuff is FUN and thats why we keep coming back, like your first tv with a remote. I did buy the 4k curved 65 Sammy because it looked like it would be fun. I am not home so my kids set it up and I'm sure they will have the bugs worked out by the time I get home.
We all make improvements to our gear or up-grade and we do it like we have ants in our pants, FUN. sorry such a long note.
